So I would recomend keeping an eye on the Square Enix page this April 2024 to see if Kingdom Hearts releases during that time.
FYI the KH games were 60% off on Epic during the winter sale 2023, so if they do release this spring, I recommend waiting for the summer sale to roll around in June.
I don't think Epic can afford that kind of exclusivity deal anymore. 5 years of a store at negative profitability. Multiple lost lawsuits. Ordered to pay millions in legal fees. Ordered to pay millions in penalties for "dark patterns" and taking advantage of kids. Massive divestitures and a laying off of a significant portion of their employees just to stay solvent...
The only way I see another Square Enix Epic exclusive happening is if Square Enix willingly releases as an Epic First Run[store.epicgames.com] game, but the past several Square Enix titles have completely skipped Epic Game's store, even as non exclusive. This tells me that A: Epic's exclusive offers either aren't happening, or aren't good enough for Square anymore, and B: Selling on Epic isn't worth it to them at all, 88% cut be damned.
True. Epic Game store has lost money giving away free games, according to news sources. They might have it on their store, but i don't think it will be a EGS exclusive. Actually, we may even see the end of EGS exclusives, which to me is fine.
The same comments over and over again
I do not believe that any publisher would sign a contract for a forever lasting exclusivity deal, that would be a very bad business move. As for EGS, I don't think it's here to stay for a long time, it doesn't earn money, it's losing it. Fortnite earns money
Shenmue 3 was a Kickstarter game and having EGS also pay for exclusivity for the digital copy reward made it easier to also get it on Steam later on.
Interesting, i heard it was a kickstarter but i did not know about the digital reward thing. Thanks for the info.
It was odd EGS took up the job for the digital reward, not surprisingly though but at least it only made a small percentage mad. Most people were just happy it was a successful campaign.
Nope. They are purposely losing money on EGS due to their marketing/investment spending in growth. When they no longer want to invest into growth, all they will do is stop the free games, coupons, and exclusivity contracts, and the store instantly becomes profitable.
It is perfectly normal for a business to be losing money for many years, even up to 20 years, while they concentrate on growth. Netflix, Spotify, Unity, Tesla, are all examples of companies that ran at a loss for 7-20 years while they concentrated on growth.
Epic's store is prehistoric and the masses biting at the free games aren't buying games much.
Epic's store isn't as good as EA, Uplay, GOG, or Steam. I don't see any progress happening.
