Kingdom Hearts on Steam breakdown
Alright so a lot of you Kingdom Hearts fans have been asking this question "When is Kingdom Hearts coming to Steam?" and you will get all sorts of answers like "It will never come to steam" or "lol gay ass buy it on egs" so I thought I'd put my two cents into this discussion.

First off, no it's not permanently exclusive to the Epic Games Store, otherwise they would have said so. Most epic games exclusivity only lasts around a year.

I have been scouring through the internet and couldn't find much of anything related until I found a reddit post that talks about how the latest update of the Kingdom Hearts games seems to have traces of code relating to the Steam Deck (Reddit post: I noticed Steam Input Strings in KH3 i didnt notice it before was that recently added?). From what I have read from the comments this has been confirmed by the SteamDB team.

This to me makes me believe that Square Enix is working on a Steam release but are wanting to make it Steam Deck compatible first before making an announcement. As for why they're taking so long when other games such as Final Fantasy 7 and Twewy didn't take as long... well, it's a collection of games.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 includes Kingdom Hearts, Chain of Memories and cutscenes of 358/2 days. Kingdom Hearts 2.5 includes Kingdom Hearts 2, Birth by Sleep and cutscenes from re:coded
Kingdom Hearts 2.8 includes Dream Drop Distance and Birth by Sleep 0.2
Then you have Kingdom Hearts 3

That's like 7 games to get working on the Steam Deck as opposed to one so it's obviously going to take a lot longer to make each game compatible with the Steam Deck.

Except it's not. It's not competing well against steam, and it's only become a vehicle to set back PC adaptation with pointless exclusivity PC users never wanted.

Can you imagine if Epic took a different approach? Forget the exclusivity deals, stick with the 88/12 cut, encourage sellers to pass the savings on to the customer with a lower price, and build up a store with features that actually attempts to compete with Steam. Then maybe a few sweetheart deals to attract customers, like the free games have proven popular. (If only to attract users. Not necessarily paying users.) Address a few known pain points that Steam users complain about, like a lack of store curation. The sheer amount of positive good will they would have generated... they potentially could have really been a contender.

Before Epic I was personally feeling a bit shaky about having "put all my eggs in one basket" so to speak with Steam. I was considering migrating over to using GOG as my "main" store. Then after all the anti-consumer, anti-competitive crap Epic pulled I entrenched myself a bit with my loyalty to Steam. After the Steam Deck released I just wanted everything on Steam because I love that device so much and it's just so damn convenient to have it on Steam rather than anywhere else. I don't think I was the only one feeling a bit shaky in my loyalty, and Epic really could have taken advantage of that. Instead they drove a lot of people away and made enemies.
I've been saying this. They had the financial backing to make some good change at steam by being a real contender. Hell, maybe I would've switched. But they just did things wrong. All this because Tim is an idiot.

Yes, there is alot of idiots in the gaming industry. Making lots of money changes people.
Was going to buy Kingdom Hearts 1.5/2.5, with sale and coupon would be around $13. Added to my cart, tells me I can't use the coupon. As a test, tried a bunch of other games, some not even on sale (all over $14.99), and coupon didn't work then either.

Opened a support ticket, after 4 days they closed the ticket with no comment. Just closed it. Is this a store I want to give money to? Would've been my first Epic purchase.

I mean, this is just the way EGS does business. They cut corners to maximize money, but they lose out in the long run. I can leave reviews on games in steam. I understand they have reviews on EGS now, but they try to protect the games by stopping review bombs... except review "bombs" just means people dislike the game on a large scale. It's the stupidest idea. I'm not surprised this happens. I continue to buy a LOT of games on steam (go ahead, check my library. You'll ♥♥♥♥ bricks) because steam's past actions allows me to feel good faith that my games will be there when I wake up in the morning. I have no issues with purchasing on valve. Never had any problems returning games within the 14 days. So I buy here. Epic isn't just a bad community platform, they failed the number one part of selling games, which is making the selling experience good for the user.

Well, I have more Steam games than you even, so obviously I'll pay for the game. Guess I can still say I haven't given a dime to Epic, and I think I have 400 games there.

This is Epic's catch 22. They need to give out free games to attract users, but those users are largely just content to collect the free games and aren't spending money.

It makes me happy their method is absolutely screwed and they've been hemorrhaging money, rather than devs actually buying into this nonsense and making money. This is bad for business, and it's getting the boot it deserves.
And yeah, to the guy who has more steam games than me, I know if it released tomorrow on steam for that full $60 each, putting it at like 240 dollars for the whole set, I'd spend that much. I recognize that's bad, but I'd do it. SE would've gotten 240 from me, and probably quite a few people, if they just released it on the right store.

Agreed. If square enix actually listened to their customers, they would of done this last year, unless the exclusivity plan is 3-5 years now. I thought it was supposed to come out this year, but now im thinking it is either fully exclusive on epic game store, or it still has a couple more years for exclusivity. Also i hate exclusive games on stuff.

Pretty sure I'm not the only one who said this but if Kingdom Hearts' EGS exclusivity is only temporary you'd all be playing it on Steam right now

wouldnt epic on enix say its fully exclusive on epic..
that would be the best sales pitch if it was...

i'm thinking / hoping its not...

and also hoping it gets a good sale price on steam...
as it will be a old game when it gets here

Yes, until square enix or Epic say it is exclusive only to their storefront, there is still a chance it may come to other stores fronts like steam. If it is, someone please provide proof of it on here. I have yet to see a post from either square enix or epic game store saying this.

Bro it's doomed. We're never gonna get it. I've been waiting for helllllllla ages and it's gonna be PS5 -> EGS for FF7 Remake Part 2 as well.
KH3 and Alan wake 2 most likely will remain epic exclusive forever
