When have they done it? Sincere question. You can play these older games, on earlier versions. Now you're not gonna have the earlier versions, and whatever you paid, gone. Ugly state of affairs.
Yeah well, that's all i can play on this PC. Newer games i play on GFN thru Xbox. But i'd like to have my games, cannot upgrade, cannot buy a new pc. It's just wrong.
Windows 95, 98, and XP come to mind. You aren't losing the ability to play any of the games, you just can't use steam on those older OS's. So to play the games you need to update your OS.
Its completely normal for computers, and has literally existed as long as computers do. Software and OS's update and if you refuse to update your OS you can and will get locked out.
Dude i just told you my computer can't handle it (Win 10). What am i supposed to do, upgrade a computer and OS, and all that money to play Return to Castle Wolfenstein? Cmon man.
To add another fun fact:
All other services with clients are also dropping windows 7/8 support or have already done so.
Yeah well, this PC gig ain't for me, that's for sure. I'm glad i went to consoles years ago. I mean GFN service on Xbox is a blast, but in good conscience, i have to end it, and stop buying these PC games.
Being i'm not buying them like i do on console, i'm renting them. And one day, when you don't have the money lie you used too (and i'm now retired), all your games go away.
That's unheard of on console. So, i def learned my lesson about PC gaming, and that era is over. But i still want the games i paid for.
You still have the games you paid for, you don't lose the licenses. In fact steam isn't even needed to launch many of the games, you can see if your games work without steam easily. Just close out steam and stop it from running and go to the games folder and launch it via the exe directly.
Computers don't last forever, and your 19 year old computer is going to fail and require you to replace it sooner rather then later.
Lol, yeah. I actually ended that and went for the paid GFN service. I mean i love these PC games, and they are more my type games, then say what they offer on GP.
But, as that old song goes, Every Rose Has It's Thorn, and Gabe is one huge thorn in my side atm lol.
I disagree. Look at the latest shutdown of the Game Boy DS store. If you had digital and didn't download it, it is gone. Same with the Sony PSP and Vita and other consoles.
I have lost many games through several console generations, that I had paid for. Not including when a console simply dies with no replacement available or disks get too damaged to work.
Consoles and and are doing the same as PC, just in a different way. They also have a shorter lifespan then an operating system.
Though at least you can switch to Linux on PC and a good amount of your games are playable with out buying a new system. If you only use it for games, then the SteamOS should still work just fine and they have a new version coming too.
Yeah, i don't get involved in any of that. Every game i own, going back to Atari 2600, i can still play w/o incident.
