"Refunded" - When will people stop pre-ordering games?
You would expect that after what happened during the releases of games like Cyberpunk 2077, Fallout 76, The Last of Us and Jedi Fallen Order people would have learned their lesson and stopped pre-ordering games.
They should know that when they pre-order a game they are just committing to paying for something some strangers in god knows where haven't even finished working on yet.

Or....people should spend their own money how they want. Feel free to lobby for your position but know this; you will catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

No difference between pre-order and buying it on day one these days, honestly. At least with a pre-order you can get extra items.

A pre-order or a day one purchase still has two weeks (from purchase/release) and two hours refund window and most who would have pre-ordered will still buy it on day one, even if they didn't.

Someone who wanted the extras could pre-order, then wait a way after release to see what issues there may be, before deciding to refund or play the game.

Kickstarter (and similar) is the worst, imho. You don't even get a running copy of the game like you do with Early Access.

Pre order refund 14 day period starts on release date, not purchase date so other than foregone interest/dividends or tied up funds, not sure what the big deal is.

I think OP is confusing Fallen Order with Survivor. The first Jedi game is not bad and even the second one isn't bad enough to where you can't finish it.

I pre-ordered Starfield, my first pre-order because it is now owned by MS, whom I hate, except that they FIX bugs. Plus there is a lot of building and learning to do for this game that will keep me interested and occupied, I hope. The only thing that I'm really concerned about is whether or not it will work at all out of the box. My first bad indication is that we are allowed to start the download of the 135 GB game, getting access to the first 86GB. Plus it now says that my start date is Sept. 5, where it should be Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. CST as that is what comes with the premier version. I think the value is good because you get a DLC plus a couple items for attack and defense so that you (I) can spend points on charisma type stuff without losing out on the ability to take out monsters (enemies).
As far as I'm concerned the game really doesn't start until the Creation Kit arrives. And as per usual Bethesda has the ugliest NPCs out of the box: it fixed this a little bit with ESO, which has no creation kit and so many bugs that the community couldn't fix until the MS purchase -- 6 months later it was basically bug free except for the WYSIWYG for character creation. I hope this is fixed for this game and I hope that Bethesda was able or forced to us MS programmers for game play. Plus I hope the issue of outfits is fixed where this was added as a redundancy to the leveled lists, which was the only way for characters with modded outfits to wear them correctly.
This will be MS/Bethesda's first big game with no extra coded bug fixes (work-arounds and where bug fixes are fixed at the source. Yahoo -- Game companies beware because your 2 or 3 bug fixes aren't going to make it any more and more and more gamers will drop you because MS games will have effectively no bugs. We'll see how this GOTY comes out of the box in a few hours or 5 more days.

These days, even buying game few months down the road won't guarantee you anything. Publishers may decide to pull the plug at any moments and you're left with empty promises (like those poor guys that bought Anthem).

Starfield seems to be Skyrim/F4 in space, with all pros and cons of it.
