Fair enough. They disable Steam on Windows 7? I'm emptying my wishlist and limiting purchases.
It's so funny because so many of the "shut up and upgrade" bullies keep claiming that Steam's reason for doing this is that "you're not profitable". Folks, I've been on Steam since it launched. I've got several hundred games. I routinely buy at least a couple, if not several, every month. My wishlist is loaded. I've poured tons of money into Steam and were it not for this ridiculous new precedent of "disabling Steam for W7" instead of doing like everyone else and either providing a scaled-down version, or just letting people run the last supported version, I would continue to do so. But now? Now I'm emptying my wishlist. GOG or any upstart game platforms that don't lock my lawfully purchased games, many from decades before W10 even existed, behind a pointless W10 requirement, will be getting the money I was going to give to Valve. Any game I can buy and use without paying Steam, I will.

I figure I'll still need to use Steam to get State of Decay 3 because it's either that or the Microsoft Store. I might bend for Payday 3. But I'm now de-prioritizing Steam as having any access to my wallet. That's the trade-off you get for being the first major game platform to literally cripple your client. No, I'm not interested in the Valve acolytes lecturing me about how it's impossible for Steam to enable small mode or something comparable for W7 users so they can still access their games. And I'm even less interested in hearing the "muh security" meme for the 5000th time. You are literally pushing a marketing illusion, nothing more. Your personal and financial data has already been leaked by giant corporations(AND government agencies) multiple times and no operating system upgrade will affect that.

These users really likes to say whatever they want in a thread that doesn't even concern them. fyi, I own W7,10 and 11. I don't care what happens in the future (whether it happen or not) but don't talk down to W7 users like your current windows is any better. they will eol too.

First time I ever installed windows 10 I was getting ads on my lock screen ..

Which are very easy to turn off and never see again.
Hello

Do you think it's normal to have some ads on lock screen ?
The question is not about the fact that it can easily be disable ,the question is about morality of their presence in our system when you do not asked for that.

Built into the kernel. Core Windows features that you cannot remove without a custom slipstream ISO. Same way you make custom variants of other operating systems, tearing out sections like the whole Tiny10/Tiny11 projects and other custom builds but breaking the OS for full functionality.

But here's the things, all the telemetry everyone is complaining about, is harmless and sends data like, 1-3 times a year if that. Doesn't collect anything personal etc etc.
Hello

By nature, every télémetry is harmless ...Most of them are used for company to improve their products or business in some way.
All that can lead to some shaddy practices, like we have seen recently with amazone, epic, google and some others ....
It's not a reason that we can easily disable most of them .
And about core kernel w7, i am ready to trust you but give us a source
like this one for w10 ?

Literally Windows 7 CEIP. You can disable it, but still sends data. People made a stink about it in 2010, and 2011. Only Windows 7 Enterprise had it fully disabled when told it to, yet you think Ultimate would too since a better version of all Windows 7, yet it didn't.

God forbid you were on Starter, Home or Home Premium.
Could we get some actual painful punishment for these companies and make them admit they were doing what they were caught doing so some change happens instead of fines they can pay by looking through the couch cushions in the break room with no admission of wrong doing.

Which is why they give you the option to completely turn it off.

It's no different then you buying a new smart phone and all the ad apps are there. You're making a mountain out of a molehill on your crusade for what is just and right, when most don't care and just disable it and move on with their life.

You always bring up the nitpicking and little things. Every time. You're sending more data to Google just being online, than anything Microsoft has ever collected.

What i dont get about posts like this, who pop up again and again on the forums about a multitude of grievances the user has with Steam, WHY announce it?
JUST DO IT.

Nobody here CARES what you do. You want to take a moral stand against Steam, fine, great, go for it.
But this grandstanding on the forums " see here ! This is what I will do! Look at me!"
is just so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lame and cringe.

Follow your conviction and just do it, no need to announce it publicly.
That just makes you look like a complete vain narcissist.

A boycott does nothing if the company in question doesn't know why its sales have dipped (or not depending on how large the boycott is).

Except with a smartphone, you can't completely remove them without some command prompt tinkering after plugging into a computer.

Even then, if you have apps to update automatically, it will just download them again.

Hello

You're intriging me now ,) even while using pcap and wireshark ? i do not have the kb installed in my os that's may be why.

Ability to disable: You can disable the Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program on an individual computer from the Customer Experience Improvement Settings page. You can also disable it by using Group Policy or an answer file with an unattended installation.

I don't think you're understanding, yet again. Doesn't matter if you're assuming it's blocked. Being on Home Premium means you've no control over your operating system, period. At least it's not the starter edition...

Hello

Not blocked on my side at least ,)

So under wireshark i should be able to see something right ?

So despite i can disable( i did it years ago ), let's call it disable , you seems to think the oposite way , so may be some "features" aka télémétry are in the same status in w10 ?

After all it means if i can't trust microsoft about that, why do i need to trust microsoft about "feature" to turn télémétry and other crapware on/off in w10?

You can update to windows 10 for free. Why wouldn’t you want to? It’s a pretty stable OS and is optimized for gaming.
