My solution for 2024 windows 7 support- A VIRTUAL MACHINE INSTALLATION
If Steam refuses to work on windows 7 I'll simply run windows 10 or 11 in a virtual box and link the steam installation from the virtual box to my Windows 7 install.
No need to cry about it and throw a fit. The argument many windows 7 users have is their PC does everything they want fine, and they like 7.

Windows 7 has been a great unobtrusive OS and I plan to continue using it until Microsoft stops re skinning it and calling it 8-10-11-12 or whatever new OS number they want to staple to it.
Literally the only program I use that has "dropped" windows 7 has been Quickbooks and I simply run that in a VM. The same will work for Steam.
Not worried about any performance impacts. I've tested this before when windows 10 was new and this machine has plenty of power and resources headroom to make any changes not worth the effort.
The Red warning banner is offensive. I'll find a way to remove that and continue on as I have been.

Great idea, and doable too. In fact: Windows 7 Pro has a build-in emulation called "XP Mode" which allows you to run a full blown XP environment. There's also VirtuaBox and such.

Just remind yourself not to bother trying to sue Steam as soon as your online transactions are taken over.

Weird, my dad ran Quickbooks 2004 on Windows 10 and it didn't mind at all (skipped from XP to 8 due to the $40 upgrade offer, got myself a couple Pro keys myself).

Yea and the world enjoy the machines running inside bot networks because outdated unsecure OS . Btw 12 will not be a reskinning. Anyway good valve helps pushing linux support.

Okay... or you just you know run w10. I mean if you have the specs to run w10 in a vm ion w7, you could actually run w10. At this point I really have to wonder when people started treating OSes like bibles.

Because windows 7 was a real and great Operating System compared to the daube we have now.. 10 and 11 are garbage. happy for people who like those windows.. i'll keep 7 for multiple reason, + the aero effect. it's beautifull to navigate around. windows 10 is depressive.

All the great stuff in Windows has simply been taken over by ms from other operating systems. Heck, ms itself runs Linux because Windows is just garbage.
But even worse people who choose a closed source OS but then run old version of it because they have problems with this 1 OS ecosystem.... 7 8 10 11 etc. should also not be seen as different but as "evolved" (and they all still have ancient rat tail with it and there 7 is also no piece better). if you decide for 1 OS ecosystem with paternalism by ms then you should at least keep that up to date! But hey do not arise annually who knows what damage related solely to the involvement of botnets ... also only affects you if your own hardware may be used for criminal because you run old open operating systems? ( from a vm can also break out.. ).

Aero was literally the first thing I turned off when I installed 7. But hey at least we confirm it's not due to any problems but rather personal dogma. And that's not Valve's problem.

Did you use first or second edition? And did you have a flaky motherboard by any chance?

the only good thing about windows was purely game perfomance due to their proprietary crap directx etc. when you think back to the old days you definitely should not forget or overlook the actions of ms intel and nvidia. otherwise the crap would not have spread so much, because it's just a horrible OS in any version ... damn even good ideas, which steal from others manage to deliver only 100% junk. they have then only their monopoly positions so secured with the dirty methods against amd and open source what has until today worst effects.
