Is steam payment broken?

I live in the Netherlands and i have tried for 2 days now. To buy some games and DLC. but aren't able too. I've tried normal bank transfer. IDEAL system that is also with my bank. And nothing.

Contacted steam support. and they swear by high and low. that it is the banks fault and they have a problem. So i contact my bank. My bank says they get multiple reports about this and are investigating the issue. And should be resolved in a few hours. That was 12 hours ago. Still it doesn't work.

Steam support still claims it is the bank. So i tried a different payment method that doesn't go through the bank. PayPal.. This time i successfully login to my PayPal page. and.... Boom. Steam says an unexpected error occurred.

What is happening? If even PayPal doesn't work. Then the problem should be with steam right? still support is saying it is the bank..

I already lost my chance on one discount. The wartales one. And now im losing the other ones. soon probably. Because i cant buy something on steam..


Oh.. and bank transfer and IDEAL does work on other sites and online. So.... This should be a steam problem. Since another fact. There are multiple reports about this online. lots of them from my country.

Are you using the Steam client or your browser? The Steam client has a web interface which is build on Chromium, but it's outdated. Which is why it doesn't work.

Best solution is to just use a browser. I'm also from the Netherlands and have no issues with iDeal at all; at best a bit of a delay (during an event) but that's all.

ive tried with both, Both didnt work. Via the web version i get a 999 error. No black screen but still the error.

So what browser do you use? And what's your operating system & its version?

Because I'm pretty sure that this is something local. It's definitely not an issue with Steam itself because otherwise I too wouldn't be able to pay with iDeal.

I use chrome. But dont know if the steam app uses it. My operating system is windows 10 pro
Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045 . Which should be the latest. Since there is no update.

The thing when you go to is it down site. While you had not enough reports that steam is down. 73 percent of the reports said. There are issues with purchasing. Which makes me think. This is a steam backend issue. There should be no reason why IDEAL and paypal shouldnt work.

I have read people having problems with the payment system these months, but normally, they got solved by doing the payment using the browser instead of the desktop application. Seems not to be your case.

Did you try using the Steam mobile app?

No i didnt use the mobile app. I never use the mobile app for that. Only for verification.

No i didnt use the mobile app. I never use the mobile app for that. Only for verification.

Some other people experienced problem with the app too. But you could give it a try if none of the options work. Do you have some kind of firewall or antivirus that has the "security payment" option? This could cause problems with the payment platforms.

I shouldnt have that. Everything worked fine like 3 a 4 days ago. I bought something back then too. but then yesterday or so.. boom. Payment kaput.

Hmmm, maybe they're server hiccups, but honestly it's weird because the maintenances are set on tuesdays. The only thing remaining here is trying to buy from different connection/device.
