So, that Activision&Blizzard acquisition of Microsoft may prove to be an even more crucial deal than it already seems. Because Tencent is already thinking about buying EpicGames, with the help of PRC Government.
So, it is Microsoft which is indirectly helping Valve, in this battleground of Capitalism.
There's zero evidence they're completely dependent on Gamestop to sell those cards, as Gamestop doesn't exist around the rest of the world to my knowledge. Steam is bigger than the US.
More than that, I seriously doubt cards make up that much of their revenue in any case.
And even more appropriately, there's so many other methods to buy credit without those cards so people will not simply be locked out.

They still have to pester you as part of their rules to sign up for this or that.
Most GamStops stopped carrying seriously old retro consoles. Local stores and even pawn shops now have the vast goldmine of stuff GameStop gave up in order to try to stay current enough to be relevant, in their own eyes.
Gamestop IS A pawnshop - its how they buy/sell used equipment.
It's worse than a pawn shop, with corporate rules.
