I fear for Steam's future if GameStop goes under.
Here is why: Steam is now almost completely dependent on GameStop stores to distribute Steam Gift Cards to its customers. Many Targets, Best Buys, etc. in many cities and towns across America have STOPPED carrying Steam Gift Cards, so this pretty much leaves it up to GameStop to carry them. Once GameStop completely goes under (and thus: ALL GameStop stores shut down), then I fear that pretty much all Americans will have no choice but to use their credit cards to add funds to their Steam Wallets. I figure that Steam's been counting on the sheer convenience of Steam Gift Cards to stay afloat; and once that option is gone, then Steam itself might well go under: Steam Gift Cards are FAR more convenient than using credit cards!

Who the ♥♥♥♥ gives a ♥♥♥♥ about Gamestop? You can get a Steam card from any groccery store, a post office, kiosk... Then there's the thing with prepaid cards being but one payment method amongst many, there's credit cards PayPal and many more.

Prepaid cards are, by the way, the polar opposite of convenience. They're a royal PITA.

Keep in mind, as well, that Steam Gift Cards make GREAT stocking stuffers to give to the PC gamers in your family.
There are better stocking stuffers than that. Plus, as mentioned, there are other gift cards that work just fine with Steam.

People still use GameStop?
No. That's why they are going under.

I 100% agree , especially gift cards with set denominations , like what you gonna do when you need to pay $51.37 but you only have a $50 gift card ? go back to the store and buy another one ? , seems like a huge waste of time to me tbh , and if you say , i can pay the rest with a CC , you could have done that from the start...

I live in a small city and those cards are all over the place, I even found them in a Dollar General store.

Even then debit cards and even rechargeable cards are much more useful.

"But think of the children!"

Let the parents deal with them.

mahony 2023 年 3 月 23 日 下午 5:09
what is gamestop?

That's like saying GameStop closing would hurt Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft.

They aren't that important for the gaming industry.
Haruspex 2023 年 3 月 23 日 下午 6:47
Gamestop closing would only hurt Gamestop investors. Also crackheads who would need to find someplace else to quickly fence their stolen games for cash.

Steam has Virtual Steam Gift Cards now.

But I can see your point in this, get more knowledge out there and branding etc. etc.

I only buy giftcards, for myself. Right now i'm waiting for dead island 2 and horizon forbidden west. If stores would no longer have steam giftcards. Then i would have to also bank online. Which i never did. Meaning i would not wait for these 2 games on steam, i would buy them on epic.

Okay... today, I found PLENTY of Steam gift cards at a local Sam's Club... including some $100 ones that I haven't seen at Target in YEARS. Currently, I don't need any of these cards; but at least I now know of one place to look for some...

As mentioned many times in this post, Steam will not be affected by Gamestop sales loss as both Valves website and app allow you to use a debit/credit card on them to load funds into your accounts wallet.

If anything, physical Steam cards WILL eventually be phased out as the consistent use of debt/credit cards as well as other forms of payment will render them obsolete.

I honestly suspect that this will be sometime in the near future if things keep going they way they have been.

Just use paypal, and you can just tell it to add as much as you need to pay and not a penny more.
