I bet it was meant to be as a way to react in a positive way to someone making a "jest"(joke).

"What you said was good comedy/entertaining/funny"

But in reality, it's used ironically or straight up as an insult.

"You say something I don't agree with it? Then I call you a clown and your opinion a joke"

That's not to say sometimes people do purposely share outright wrong takes, precisely to bait people into giving awards such as jester... but most of the time?

Most of the time, it's just people jerking off at the very idea of feeling themselves(or their point of view) to be superior than others, without going through the effort of actually proving it with reason and logic and fact. To me, it's just yet another minute tool to feed the separatist mentality that's been growing up at an exponential rate thanks to the globalization through social media.

Who cares about the truth in things when you can just "virtual-invalidation" people and their views with a couple of clicks and impose yourself and your own views while also earning some "virtual-validation" of your own... right?

Totally agree with you, Nick. Yet I see the ultimate joke as on the person who's giving the award. On Steam, points are a currency. Therefore, they are spending/wasting their hard-earned points by giving them to the person they're insulting.

In practically any D&D-style MMO, do you insult somebody by anonymously giving them gold? No, because that would be stupid.

In Second Life, do you insult somebody by anonymously giving them Linden? No, because that would be stupid.

In the real world, do you insult somebody by anonymously giving them money? No, because that would be stupid.

So the clown is really the person who's giving out the 'Jester' award as an insult, because they basically just gave away $6.

I means they like you enough to give you free steam points.

So, you're referring to when they gave players six dollars off via redeeming steam points during that race event thing, I take it?

I wish they actually would allow us to do that again, because steam points are currently useless to me. As far as I know they only allow users to decorate there profile, and avatar.

No. I was referring to the fact that if you buy a $6 game, then you earn 600 points. So when you spend 600 points to give out a 'Jester' award, you just wasted your $6 worth of points by giving them away as an insult.

you'll get it when you're older little man...:slendy:
That is the kind of post that gets jester awards.

It means basically what the Heavy is saying here:
"You are just funny, man"

This video is like the perfect encapsulation of all the misconceptions regarding the Jester-award, ever.
