the new PRICING is quite anti-consumer
i used to buy some pretty cheap games without caring too much cause i would not be mad if i payed 10 cents on a game that could not scam me for much but now with these "AAA" company's price going way too high with their pricing and the cheap games which are my go to cause they are fun and not over priced becoming straight up UNBUYABLE!

like ok i get that valve is trying to price games more fairly across countries and that is 100% fine in my book. However, being unable to buy old games or cheap games for the sake of paying up more so that it is more aligned with US pricing nah uh.

not every country has the luxury of being able to pay these absurd prices. especially when i see what "AAA" games are asking. man that is the price of a liver lol
also sorry for the rant on my first post am pretty new to posting topics.

Update: am just going off this emotionally and did not think this through my bad guys and thanks for the tips.

This really seems like the argument of someone so young they haven't really experienced the effects of inflation. Well don't worry, all the prices you used to pay for things aren't permanent and will change over time. Get used to it.

Yes, because cost of production increases with time too.

Except for digital goods...

Technically, that goes up too. Labor, for example, is a component, and if it costs more and more for your workforce to sustain their living conditions, then they are gonna demand more and more. You don't want your work force either quitting to work elsewhere, or going on strike, after all.
Utilities and hardware also fluctuate in price.

No, that doesn't apply here because we're talking about games that were made already. New games costing more is a different story.

They must be pre-pandemic productions then. Or outside of other, past periods of economic difficulties.

So if Activision would raise the price of the older COD titles from 60 to 80 bucks because "well, everything got more expensive and our workers need more money to pay rent" ... that would be just fine and totally understandable?

I mean, that ignores the fact that games sell more and more with each year

It doesn't. Unless you want to ignore the fact that there's also thousands of more games every year competing for the growth of sales, games age differently now, and the growth of units sold isn't going to increase perpetually. And that some growth year over year may not offset the increase in costs and eventually prices would have to go up to address that.

I dont see solid figures for this discussion, but from what I can see I would say that games actually sell in higher quantities than before. I'm long time player - seems that I have been playing computer games for more than 30 years now. 20 years ago we used to buy few games a year and those game have been played for a long time, over and over. Look around on steam - how many people here have 100's of games? I have 250+ titles in my library - only on steam, and while profile tells that I've been here for 11 years I would assume that easily 200 games have arrived within last few years, maybe three, maybe four. Many of my friends have similar or larger ammount of games. And fun fuct: we dont even play those titles. I always have around 70+ titles never played for a single second, and at least another 50-70 that have been launched for a short while and still waiting to be played more. So, we basically buy games on the first place. Playing is optional ;-).

Games dont see to be much different from many other items we buy in real life. Buying and stacking things is a way of life, right? Same with games. And yes, there are people who own 1-2 games on steam and play them over and over. Full respect if someone asks me, but if we are talking about general situation I would assume that:
- we buy much more games than ever before
- we buy much more games that we are capable of playing.

Everything about steam is anti-consumer
Wrong, everything about Steam is pro consumer, Valve is one the most pro consumer companies out there, if you want anti consumer try batte.net, it hosts majority of premium priced games, where are micro transactions, that cost hundreds of dollars and a terrible refund policy. Additionally not many companies are making their own markets catered to consumers inside their own platform like Steam does and don't forget the Steam workshop.
