"JUST UPGRADE" - except Windows 8 and beyond do not support firewire.

Imagine you bought an expensive device that runs on firewire - for example a high end audio interface. If you "just upgrade" to windows 8 or beyond, you will come into problems with firewire....hell Windows 11 does not even support firewire........ because Microsoft has basically become the laziest most contemptful software company under the sun. Too lazy and pathetic to kick out a basic hardware driver

Because its all too hard for steam to just greenlight the DRM checks to let people play the games on the software and hardware they originally bought it on, you're now FORCED to run multiple operating systems and or buy new hardware ....

Would a pci e firewire adapter card solve your problem?

Windows 11 supports firewire 1394, Win 10 usually works well with the legacy drivers.

In win 11 you should not use the legacy drivers, it comes with own drivers.

I mean seriously. I started using Steam when I was on Windows Me, I guess that means Valve should support it.

I think since it is a solve able problem, we wont get any more insights on that.

Windows 7 technically didn't even support Firewire, as the rewritten bus driver was about as broken as non-integrated Bluetooth support has been since, well, Windows 7. To get Firewire to work on Win7, you need to download community-customized drivers or rewrite them yourself.

I just think it odd to even bring it up, it died in 2013, before Windows 10 even came out.

None of their reasonings hold water because some of them even after naming all the reasons why they can't upgrade to Windows 10 or 11, they finally come out and say that the reason is, is they just don't want too.
