Cannot Type in Address Bar
I was attempting to input a link to a game I discovered, which was linked on Itch, but I quickly realized I could no longer port said browser link to Steam, and download it from there. Instead, Steam simply copies the address bar link, where it previously would allow input. Why? I cannot use Steam to find games if half its functionality as a browser is missing; unfortunately, I can't find the game manually from Steam as the connection handling necessary to load the store page and search it manually is an awful thing to my internet - and in any case, I shouldn't need a dozen extra steps to load a Steam game's page on the Steam client.

Control+click or middle mouse click a link in the store to open a new Window which has the function you want to use.

Not sure what you believed I meant, as CTRL-clicking does not allow me to paste into or edit the Steam url bar.

Go to the store. Find any clickable thing there, like a game. Control+click on it.

I quite stated I can't use the Steam store, and acquired the url from Itch. I'm attempting to paste it into Steam so I may download the game, but the new UI is trash.

You can't go to the Steam store page?

https://store.steampowered.com/

Are you in India?

They can't PASTE A bloody LINK.
Is this some broken AI post?

The Steam client has never allowed that AFAIK. But you can always use a real browser.

You CAN literally paste links in the new window.

The Steam client permitted it in the update prior, if you had enabled the url bar (no longer a setting and enabled by default, fortunately, but what's the point if you can't use it?)
Also, the issue, rather, is that I indeed could load the page in a real browser, but the signal to download the game from the browser isn't sent to my client for whatever reason, thus I must load the page directly from Steam, and download it.

I just went to the store page, control+clicked on MWII to open a new window, pasted the link to Terraria into the URL address bar and it took me to the Terraria store page in that same window.

Steam Beta, July 5th update.

Sorry. I don't download videos from people on the net.

Steam support has predictably confirmed this is an intentional feature without any sane workarounds. At best, there may be console solutions, but in any case, the Steam client is ironically officially no longer useful for navigating Steam.

Oops, do not worry, mkv is a harmless video file. :)
It has no viruses inside it, not a viable virus medium, AFAIK. :)

The file itself isn't the concern. The software being used to open the file is what could be exploited by the content of the MKV.

I've a png as well, but I'm not so sure of the difference it'd make in terms of possibly being malware.
In any case, Steam essentially outright informed me their client was no longer useful for reasonably browsing their services, and that I should use an external browser instead to paste links (the majority of the time I find myself on a Steam webpage is from someone linking a game, so wth). Thus, I suppose that's exactly what I'll do when I manage to pass their bloated sign-in procedure on my browser.
