yeah the past 2 court settlements from win98 and winxp ending steam support, the judge threw them both out

i think same would happen with win7 court settlement too

Nah, he's just future proofing the platform for the millions of us who don't have a problem staying current with technology. Just like he did with 98 and XP, and Steam had only gotten bigger. So he's doing all right in my book.

Incorrect. They are allowed to sell it at that temp. They just had to put a label on the cup that says something like, "Caution, hot."

Not really, its still dangerously unsafe and they are still settling lawsuits to this day because of it. Its just cheaper to pay the lawsuits then change it because with the amount of coffee they sell they'd lose more money having to re-make batches of coffee compared to keeping it dangerously hot.

Jesus people are still using this system? Just get on Windows 10 or 11! Both are amazing systems and not worth staying on 7…

This is like those people who do not throw anything away or prefer floppy disks.

7 is being maintained by people who do not want to change. Not Microsoft who stopped the end of life for it..

Try and sue all you like. Best of luck with your terrible argument.

I think many of us (including me) may be in for a rude awakening when we find out post Jan, we're still going to be able to play our games even with Win 7. EA threatened the same thing, and guess what? I'm still playing the games on Win 7.

As far as "suing", anyone can be sued. Trump, McDonalds, Xbox, Valve in Australia, they all got sued, and yes, Valve can be sued again. But you can't sue, for nothing, up and until it happens, not before.

"you" could sue for an injunction to stop the update until the case is heard

i still say the best bet is going to be small claims

that probably would have to wait

i do remember seeing a case where a landlord sued before damages occurred

they won because they could prove that the tenant either

would not be able to pay by the deadline

or said they were not going to

can't remember which

since we know this is going to happen

whomever sues might be able to use that theory now

It's already been stated that it won't end right on Jan 1st because XP and Vista support didn't end when they said it world. It's called a placeholder. They had to set a date, because they couldn't just say "Yeah, sometime in the early part of next year, we'll be releasing update that will make Steam unable to start using Windows 7, 8, or 8.1...k thx bye lol"

So, don't think that just because your OS still works with Steam after Jan 1st, that Gabe came in and saved the day or that they cancelled the update.

As for suing, some of you are saying, you can't upgrade because the hardware is too expensive? But you're going to sue? As said, trying to sue and and suing and winning are different. Do you have the money for Valves' court fees when you lose? Because you just said you can't afford new hardware.

That's the great thing about fantasy and bluster. You can say whatever you want, and never follow through. And you can believe you would have won if it was actually worth your time. That's a double win. And it was super cheap too, and think of the time savings. What like five to ten minutes to run a half dozen versions of the fantasy through? That's like twelve wins right there.

And what if someone were to actually do it, and win? That's almost like you being right and winning too. Thirteen wins in a row. Valve better watch out! Times like a thousand malcontent users, that's like users: 13,000 wins / 0 losses. We're really getting into some Scott Steiner math now...

The difference is there are 50+ years of court cases siding with software companies, including the last 6 times Valve sunsetted an old OS and people tried to sue them only to find out they couldn't.

Software discontinuing support for older OS's have been a thing for 50+ years. There is no law that forces a software company to support an OS until the end of time.

I mean this is the 6th or 7th time people have made the exact same claims, but i'm sure THIS time it will turn out differently....

It's not about continuing support, but a case about bricking previously working software (games) with no good reason and in bad faith.
Please explain how it can be bad faith when it's in the terms and conditions YOU AGREED TO?
As much as I hate to admit it, I switched to W10 so I wouldn't lose access to my racing sims, rFactor 2 and Automobilista 2.

Try as I might I could not get them to run without steam. And, I tried, boy did I try.

Anyway, long story short....They run better in W10 than they did in W7. Smoother frames, better force feedback on my wheel..just a better experience all around.

Glad I made the change. Now I don't have to worry about it anymore.

Yeah I have about 1400 games on Steam and when I made the switch after a few years away, I found improvements across the board but also more games working on 10 than 7.

Pro tip suggestion - if you have Assetto Corsa by any chance you can run that without Steam, especially if you use a frontend like Assetto Corsa Content Manager. Just a heads up. Havent' tried running those two without Steam though so can't comment.

I do have AC and content manager, was not successful in getting it to run without steam. Dosen't matter now, but sure would be good to know if it's possible.

That may not be a Windows 7 VS Windows 10 thing you're noticing though but maybe more of a new vs old Windows installation that you are noticing. Over time, Windows' filesystem tends to become more and more fragmented. Old registry entries and drivers leave behind files and configurations that can interfere with smooth operation. What you've described I've noticed from going from Windows 10, to a Windows 10 fresh install using the same installation media as I used the first time, only 6 months apart.

It got to a point where I set up partitions so that I could maintain certain files and settings, while being able to do fresh installs of Windows about every 6 months to maintain smoothness. Part of the reason for my move to Linux is because I don't need to do this. Assuming some background application isn't running and draining sources, BTRFS isn't as inefficient and unstable as NTFS, and there is no registry. Drivers are simple kernel modules that area easy to completely purge and replace if I update my hardware.
