Is There A Way To Get Rid Of Lag And High Ping In MMO/Online Games?

Hi, I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to remove lag and high ping in the online games I play. I'm not to tech savvy but I've heard you could remove lag/ high ping by connecting your pc to your router or using a wifi extender? Is there any other ways to help deal with this problem and would the advice I've heard help my situation? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I connect to my wifi, I have a router but it's not directly connected to my pc as it's located on the other side of the house. I've heard a wired connection is more solid though, but I'm not sure what wired connector I would use, is it an Ethernet cable that I would run to my router from my pc?

The connection to your router is a start, WLAN CAN be finnicky. Doesn't have to, but it happens in practice. So if you consider running an Ethernet cable and can run an Ethernet cable, do it! Quite frankly, I prefer Ethernet to WLAN at home where possible. I wouldn't run a cable to my Deck on the balcony, for example, but I do run a cable to my & my GF's desktop PCs (despite both having WLAN).

Now still, please answer the question of how you connect to the internet. I understand you're using WLAN to connect to your router, but your still needs to connect to the internet somehow and I don't think fairy dust conducts data.

Yes, a simple RJ45 Ethernet cable, rated CAT5E or better would be recommended.
Specifications allow up to 100m length.

Thanks for the advice, I don't think I understand you last question though. About connecting to the internet? When I first built my PC I just plugged it into the wall, the motherboard came with a wifi antenna that attached to my pc. After I logged on my computer I just selected my wifi signal and put in my password for it.

Edit: When I check my wifi setting it shows that I run wifi 4 with a network band of 2.4 ghz and intel Wireless-AC 160MHZ. I'm not sure if that says anything?

Yeah, that moment, you connected to your router. You don't really think the whole of the internet is in your router though, do you? Like, Steam for example. It doesn't sit inside your router (obviously, you don't see a tiny GabeN running around your home when he thinks everyone's asleep), it sits on Valve's servers. Everyone from all over the world (except China, it seems, and I think North Korea) connect to Valve's servers over the internet. YOUR ROUTER IS CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET!

I understand that you're using WLAN to connect to your router, yes, I get that and you don't need to repeat that. BUT WHAT HAPPENS THEN? When your PC asks your router for a piece of Steam data, it goes to your router. But what then? How is that request transmitted from your router into the internet? How is your router connected to the internet?

Let's just stick to what we've established above. Run an Ethernet cable and if things are better and you don't have to remove that Ethernet cable, call it a solved problem.

There is no WLAN port on your router, unless it allows to connection of external antennas, which would not use RJ45 but a coaxial connection.

Use one of the LAN ports.

I'd have to check that in the morning, it's 2 am here, I don't want to wake anyone up as the routers not in my room. I'll re-edit this post when I do though.

You could also dig out your copy of the contract with the ISP. That stuff must be noted (and I doubt the contract is valid if it isn't).

I was looking at getting this wifi router on Amazon. If I did, would I need to connect it to my orignial router or would it work on it's own and just have it connected to the wifi and my pc? Or would connecting to my original router still be the best option?
