Why game-developer can ban players from buying game based on country of players but players can't do the same to game-developer?

You can easily click the ignore button either on individual games they make or on their developer/publisher page.

You can not buy any game you don't want to buy, congrats you have "banned" them from your library

And with a war going on, they can barr people from instigating countries from purchasing their products.

I take it you are from either Russia or Belarus and that's why you asked.

All you can do is ignore those developers and their games; sadly, Valve isn't going to do a darn thing due to profit.

the problem that steam knows the country of gamedev but isn't showing it to us

Who is forcing these users to purchase games that they don't want?

Because that information is irrelevant.

How are ordinary Russian citizens instigating Ukraine by wanting to buy games just like the rest of us? I don't see how that is instigating anything. Russian citizens shouldn't even be being punished because of a war that isn't in their control. All of it is downright absurd to me. Right now, it's Russia and Belarus that are being treated this way; next up, it could be any other country or targeted individual(s); it's all a slippery slope, really.

Game companies took it upon themselves to block purchases from those countries due to their countries instigation.

There is no slippery slope. It's all in your head.

The fact that it is literally impossible to do normal business in Russia because they've been banned from SWIFT is not 'Russophobic'

But yes apparently instigating an unprovoked bloody war against a neighbor magically has global consequences and is apparently a 'slippery slope'? Do you know what that means. Because it doesnt seem like you understand what the words you use actually mean.

A game developer who publishes on Steam doesn't control who they can sell to, that's up to Steam. So.. within this context: no, a game developer does not "ban" people from buying. They can of course ban people from interacting with their gamehub (forum, screenshots, guides, etc.) but that doesn't affect the store page.

If you're referring to all the financial restrictions applied to Russia... I have to agree. "Some countries" can easily invade, occupy and control others based on a pure lie and never get called out for it; even when the lie comes out. And others.... have to suffer.

In the end it's the population who has to "enjoy" the merits of their government, but that's nothing really new. Ask "Lodewijk XIV" aka "Louis XIV". Oh wait, he's no longer amongst us because the French citizens stood up to him ;)

Thing is.. politics have no place here and IMO for a very good reason. I'd rather bond in gaming than fight over the views of dumb politicians which opinions you will never be able to change. Especially if you consider that wars are very profitable for some.

Actually, notable developers/publishers that pulled their games from sale in Russia and Belarus on Steam and all other services are...

Microsoft (includes Bethesda, Mojang Studios), Activision-Blizzard, Rockstar, CDPR, 4A, GSC Game World (S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and a big RIP to Vladimir "Fresh" Yezhov who passed away in the war), Ubisoft, SEGA, Behaviour Interactive, Supercell, FromSoftware, Sony (Bungie), Bloober Team and 2K (Firaxis Games).

Gifting on Steam is also disabled for those games.
