Game profiles - Overpriced?
Do you guys think game profiles being 10k points each are overpriced as i do?

Yes, it's dumb that promoting a game and using the profile costs so many points.

Game companies -love- free publicity and yet they punish people who wanna promote them. for free, on top of that. XD
You need to spend about 100 euroes on Steam before you can buy a single special profile.
That is quite a lot.
So yes I find it overpriced.

If you want 5 profiles, lets say you want to change profile every year, you'll make Steam quite bling bling.
Most people with a large list of games bought them from bundle offers on third party sites I assume, which, as such get excluded.
though its true that if you buy about 4 or 5 games on Steam you can buy a profile (depending on which)
which would through bundles be worth 40 games I guess.
Points are just a nice little bonus when purchasing a game, nothing more. You can also gain them with reviews, guides, forum posts...
So no, it's not overpriced because it has no monetary value in the first place.

Also they can only be used for cosmetics, nothing that really matter.

then why do the backgrounds cost so much if they're "just fun"? and backgrounds are also "Just fun"?

Backgrounds cost a few cents in the market.
If you're talking about the animated backgrounds 2000 points isn't that much.
A lot of games with profile themes also have animated backgrounds that are different, and cheaper. My profile's background cost half of what the official Witchers does, and looks better in my opinion. So unless your dead set on a particular profile, the odds of finding something similar enough for less is always there.

I think the prices are fine.
I think the prices are fine considered the gold profile and gold forum name use to be 5K points. xD

I dont think the developers set the points, I think steam themselves do, which makes sense because it makes people spend money on steam to get points since awards don't award nearly as much.
Nah, it's fine. Even if you don't spend big on the platform, you can still earn points easily through Steam award for creating good content.

and yet if people do that, they're mocked and called 'farmers' and shamed.

Eh, that whole system just made steam worse.
Points are fine but awards.....

People just beg A LOT more, so now we have +rep threads (still), friend collector threads, begging for games/money threads, now begging for points.....

Then the amount of the lowest effort guides you have ever seen have SKY ROCKETED on top of 'joke' reviews. It is a race who can make the funniest meme guide that doesn't even involve the game half the time and a speedrun to who can post the silliest meme review the second the game launches.

I said good content, not award baiters. If you make a few purchases here and there and also engage with content then points are very easy to come-by. One award equates to $1 in that respect. Sure award farmers are an issue as is the people awarding them but if you want points for yourself then there there is more than one way to get them.
Yes i ignore them.
If you actually buy games on Steam the points add up pretty fast. Even with dropping 40,000 points on seasonal badges I can't spend them fast enough, currently have about 225,000.
