you can just go wherever you want, kill whoever you want, do whatever you want the map is so big and there are so many bosses and loot that what kept me in for a long time
ive played many diffrent games and there are barely any open world which compete with that one for me, sure there are big and interesting open world but it always miss something.
for example Ubisoft games (assassin or far cry) they have pretty good open world but beside going in the point of interest that are shown there is nothing and it is highly repetitive
and going where you are told to go, sure it might be easy but less fun
Previous ones were Metroid games at their center. Linear maps but with multiple options to progress.
ER is an open map.

Same with Pokemon Go!
Turns out they were worldwide phenomenons.
Guess people have different opinions.
Almost like enjoyment is subjective.
I objectively disagree.
can you keep the loot with you forever or how does it work?
Pokemon is the same core (Capture, fight)
Call of Duty is the same core (Pew pew, killstreak)
God of War is the same core ( Beat-em-up with QTEs)
Not to mention fighting games, asymmetric games, battle royales, etc.
If people avoid playing a game because it might be more of the same mechanics, then there is something wrong with their perception of gaming in general. Now, if they tried a game and found aversion to said mechanics, then that is a more reasonable standpoint to avoid similar games.
So if someone plays a fighting game, gets trounced and decides to tuck tail and run rather than improving, then the options are to find another fighting game that suits their ability (maybe something easier or simpler) or simply avoid the fighting genre altogether.
There is no shame in accepting your tastes or limitations.
Freedom, no hints, no handholding. No quest pointers.
Only your personal adventure. And for a change, a difficult game, where you really feel pride and accomplishment, if you finally get past some bosses. Not the EA one.
A game with NO auto-win.
If you do not feel it, if you are not willing to get up again and again, the game was simple not made for you. Because you are not a Gamer. This game resonates only with a certain kind of people. And you will never be able understand it's appeal.
One of it's appeal is to adapt, to get better as player, not as ingame character and overcome difficulties. You as player itself has to improve.
If you turn tail, rage quit and run this game was not made for you. You have to improve.
The downside of it is, If you are able to do that, you will find out that most other games nowadays are a bore, that you are able to win with a blindfold on ... with one hand tied to your back. Because you have improved that much now. That is the moment you will understand how special this game is. And why it is different from most of them.
The main reason I am modding games is to crank up the difficulty level for me. Because if you play games since the time of "Pong", your skills get unreal. And such a game like Elden Ring is finally a challenge again.
calling people who don't get into Elden Ring or these kind of games "not a gamer" is ridiculous
The price of the game would need to drop by at least 50-60% before I even consider buying that game. Almost 90$ (CAD) is no joke for a game I seriously doubt I'll enjoy playing.
Yeah you keep forever even in the new game +
You can drop and delete them by choice if you want or store them in a storage chest to not having a too chaotic inventory up to your liking
