Steam games files defrag!
I just want to know why I can’t defrag my games files for steam. I mean I try and use IOLO[www.iolo.com] and steam always puts them back to where they were. I mean it's not your computer I place them anywhere I want. I’m probably missing some fine print that says I can't defrag the files. I mean I have only 20 games and its 100 gigabytes or more in files that I can optimize. Please don't let Steam leave your files a mess.

Steam stopped using the gcf files that needed defragmentation quite a while ago.

Why use it:

Over time, the many interdependent files that make up a program tend to drift apart and become scattered across the hard drive. This misalignment not only impacts the speed at which your programs can run, it also causes excessive movement of the hard drive, which leads to unnecessary wear-and-tear on your hardware.

Program Accelerator realigns these program files on the hard drive, resulting in programs that launch faster and respond more quickly.

Thank you for that bit of info. I see that the stteam client itself is still 2.0.0.0 and I am using beta update; I might still have an older client.....infact the driver update agent [esupport.com]says it's out of date.

To be perfectly frank, 100Gig for the games you have seems about right.

As already stated, as Steam doesn't use that GCF format anymore, I seriously doubt you'll get much more optimization, or at least without it affecting performance.
