Uplay as well...
Comparing the scope of the service only GOG comes even close. Their speciality are older games they have modded to work out of the box on Win7/8/10 and they give technical assistance. All games they sell are DRM free.
Origin and Uplay concentrate on EA and Ubisoft titles respectively.
While Uplay sells their new titles on Steam Origin doesn't. So you must have Origin for newer EA titles. For Uplay titles on Steam you still must have an Uplay account. The Steam installer is often broken and you may be better off to register the key you got from Steam on your Uplay account and install the game from their client if you don't need the Steam overlay.

As you do with Origin as well. Any Ubisoft game (especialy newer ones) will require the Uplay client, reguardless of platform.

In terms of the variety and number of games, there is no platform like Steam. If you just want another digital distrabution platform, then there are many out there, but with far fewer games available.

GOG is good, though not all are DRM free as some may still require an account and/or entering a game key (both are considered a form of DRM).

GOG only has about 1700 gams while Steam is at about 10,000.

What you need to ask your self is "What do I want from a gaming platform?" and go from there.

Then again, there is no real point in asking for an "alternative" since they all have their own unique stores with slight overlap.

Feel free to use them all. That is what I do. :steamhappy:

A list of digital distrbution stores:

Steam
Origin
Uplay
GoG
Battle.net

All others may sell keys that require one of the above platforms. Stand alone games are a rarity these days.

I don't suggest switching over to Uplay or Origin tho..
1) they don't have most games that are on steam
2) the Uplay/Origin client is garbage
3) good luck downloading stuff without getting 90 errors throughout downloading it

I never had any issues with Origin.

Both Origin and Uplay have gotten much better since their initial releases. Both work no worse than Steam.
direct2drive is still around (or back again rather) as well, though they aren't as big after all the ownership changes and troubles

Well if you have Windows 10 you can download games from xbox or some ♥♥♥♥.

KILLER INSTINCT is downloading now FREE or at least Freemium.
Didn't think I'd ever play the game without an XBOX
