Awards are not as evil as people make them out to be

I see so many people whine about how they got a jester or laughing award on their posts for pretty much no reason

these awards basically give you free money since steam says on the point shop "100 points for every $1.00 you spend.
Buy any game, DLC, hardware, application, soundtrack, or in-game item, and get points." feel free to correct me but im pretty sure this is the only method to get points which would basically mean free money "free points for the points shop anyway of course its not actually free real money" its basically a donation

why are people trying to turn such a great thing into something so horrible?

But still if they were sticking notes said clown on it instead of $1 then its a problem, unless got fireplace then hey free supply lol.

Just imagine live in city, living next major road, how many nickel you get for every person that pass you, could get like big Mac combo every day for free basically, or pizza, don't have to worry about food money ever again really.

Just need to not have dingity that all.

What I care about is not that I feel harmed by a clown picture on my posts. What I care about is the kind of culture Valve fosters in their community.

People like to blow things far out of proportion, usually fueled by personal vendettas or dislike of things, or extreme misunderstanding. Quite frankly I've been more of the "Thanks for the free points", after so many times people that dislike me stopped giving them to me because I celebrate free points, I don't complain about another award and more points to buy stuff I would like.

People would feel differently about physical property. Simple increment and listing of having such in digital space is immensely different. If they gave you the option to display them as a showcase (selecting which you like) or fixed awards re-displaying (for some reason) despite the selection, chances are you'd like showing off certain awards, no?

If you think the appearance of your profile on a gaming forum has the equivalent impact of anything you own IRL, that’s a you problem.

We are all anonymous players with no one knowing who we are IRL, unless you foolishly start sharing your personal information to randoms on a gaming platform so why put so much effort into thinking a silly award, no matter which one it is , causes you so much pain/anxiety.

First, if you read my post carefully I never explicitly claimed that awards were done with any kind good or bad intent. Strawman.

Now let me turn what you said around: Please prove what kind of intent is behind someone spitting a person he passes by in the street. Please do not make any assumptions but rather demonstrate what his intent is, with actual proof.

I got so many Jesters for simply swimming a bit against the mainstream in the comment section of Skyrim Patches, it was absolutely awesome. I got tens of thousands of points (and some XP) after that. Obviously I continued with that for the next patch-notes. I felt like a rich man. Would collect Jesters anytime.

Sidenote: You can be the most helpful person on the entirety of Steam, you'll rarely get a Helpful Award for it. Sometimes, yes, but do a good Jester at the right time and you're swimming in awards and points.^^

I like jester awards. the people with no brains on Steam think they're calling you stupid but in reality they legit just give you free levels and customization lol. Make some comment on the TF2 forums or update pages that the game is dead or something and the points roll your way. I literally got over like 15k steam points for posting that ONCE with half going to my profile and half to the post.
