New profile setting. Gender selection male or female

Valve, please make Steam accounts add gender selection in the settings. The game would be able to give out the gender of the character in the game by this parameter.
For example, the game Rust automatically assigns the gender of the player to each steam account. But in steam there is no gender selection in the settings. It turns out I'm a man, and in the game they gave me a woman.
I ask you to deal with this problem together with Facepunch Studio

Rust is very much the only game I have ever come across that generates a random character for you that you cannot change AT ALL.
No doubt one of the briliiant ideas of the "trust us, we know what we're doing" guys behind it.

Actually it is kinda brilliant. You have no choice. You are what the dice roll. You are literally a random nobody in the game world.

This. I really see no reason to add that info to our profiles, I find irrelevant if you're male or female. Also, if I want to know, I can simply ask. Looks like someone is looking for a girlfriend... welp, Steam is not the best place to do that. If the real issue is Rust and only Rust, you must talk to the game devs. Ask for an option to change your char, even if it is totally random again. You did? Oh well, you tried.

There is no need for Steam to have default settings for everything a game could possibly give you an option for. Gender is just one option that might be configurable.

Also, preferences might depend on the game at hand...

Should note I didn't say DON'T do it. I asked why and made a point of how it's not as simple as male/female nowadays and provided a link of examples. So rather than picking how about answering the question. Why? Can always add whatever Gender you want to your profile if you want. As far as Valve is concerned is you're a user. Gender isn't important

Yeah as its been said it won't solve anything. Its PURPOSELY random and the game dev's could add the option into their game quite easily if they actually wanted people to be able to choose.

I really wish they would add an option to choose gender. In my Activity Feed it always says ''Koude Thee added (example) to HIS library''. So I thought, ''Oh I must have chosen ''male'' by accident''. Only to find out there isn't even an option to choose from. This is very frustrating.

I've never seen this, it's always something like "(user) has played (game) for the first time". I took a long look through Activity and found nothing gendered.
I actually found several instances of "(User) added (game) to their Library", nothing gendered.
Always double check before bumping threads.

Compelled speech and courtesies are entirely different things, Steam doesn't participate in social-political things. It's best to not to bring these topics to Steam. People can put whatever within the rules on their profile anyway, but some things are better left on twitter.

One person hoped they could change a game’s assignment of gender, and another wants the client’s pronouns to match their GI.

RTFT and you’d be aware that what’s displayed on profiles isn’t the crux (or of any bearing at all TBH) to the discussion thus far.

People that play RUST sometimes complain about it randomizing any one player and putting the randomized character to their SteamID. OP wanted Valve to get involved with Facepunch, but the Dev stated they're keeping it as random, so the whole thing is revolving around RUST.

People don't realize it's not Skyrim, there's no character customization nor will there be. You get what you get and the point is people need to dive into the game itself.
