i think you have to own half life 2 to download it
DarkCrystalMethod 24 JUN 2022 a las 20:45
Its free so start on the store page
https://store.steampowered.com/app/340/HalfLife_2_Lost_Coast/
Click install
When its done click the "Play Now" button or launch it from your library. It doesn't require Half-Life 2. Its a separate install of that game engine.

Lost Coast is a tech demo/showcase created to show off HDR back in the day

It was already mentioned, but to make it clear: you need to have Half-Life 2 in your library before you can access Lost Coast.

"Half-Life 2; Lost Coast" will show in your library as a separate item if you have access to it.

It SHOULD be included in the base "Half-Life 2" AFAIR.
(and according to this list it should be included in pretty much all iterations that include HL2: https://steamdb.info/app/340/subs/)

- Lost Coast is also in this list; https://store.steampowered.com/franchise/Half-Life - does it show here or in the product page as being in your library?
- It's possible that you need to install and launch HL2 first.
- Restart your Steam client.

EDIT: and to reiterate what other dude said: Lost Coast is "just" a tech demo using the HL2 engine and assets. You're not missing out on much if for some reason you can't get it to work. Check out a YouTube video.

Buy Half-Life 2, Lost Coast is an extra you get for doing that.

It's ONLY if you already own HL2. Otheriwse it will not popup for you.

It's a tech demo and nothing truly exciting. It lasts a few minutes as it's based on the idea of a scrapped interim level of the game.

I have it, and the posted link says "Error Unable to load information about this item."

As to what it was, Removed content, tech demo, test bed. It's short, so don't go into it expecting too much. It was very pretty for it's time.

Same here. I've seen this phenomenon before; it happens with widgets that point to app-id of items that aren't normally visible in the store, such as those that have been removed from sale, or like Lost Coast which has special properties (can be found via search, but it isn't for sale and it isn't a DLC).

For you and anyone else wondering, here are two videos which go through the whole level at different speeds and levels of "looking at the scenery":
8 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBnm3j7oCx0
23 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Veze4ohdVbU

Well its actually completely playable but you can click the spinning orange dialog balloons to hear what Valve has to say about what they're doing at each important spot in the level.
Also resist the urge to swim at the start of the level as there are the biting worms in the water.
