I have to stop buying games that I actually don't wanna play
I don't know how about you, but sometimes I have something that I have to buy a game just because everybody are saying about how good this is, but it turns out that this is just overrated and boring crap with bugs, and I buyed that only because I got overwhelmed with people talking about it 24/7 , God.
I mostly haved that situation with old RPG games from 2000-2010 era, that turned out to be just boring and buggy and overrated by it fanboys.
But I have that situation with the moderns titles sometimes, because when the game comes out people are always talking about it and about playing it and I feel that I also should play it since Steam community is talking about it so much, but I think that this isn't good way to play games, but I also just can't stay and look at people being hyped on these games.
I must start think my own brain and chose games that I actually wanna, not because they are popular

I don't even know "everyone", so I don't care what he says

In general, if a game (that does get on the shopping list by default) catches my attention, I find a decent review or two or three on Youtube, to get a better impression of the game.

But, the point to note is that for ANY game to get on my shopping list, it has to appeal to ME first. There's no way to bypass that requirement... so far.

Yeah, don't do that.

Nothing to do with fanboys, mostly with nostalgia. If you're young, you'll simply have a harder time enjoying and appreciating those games due to being less forgiving of mechanics and the like. Older games play differently compared to what you're used to and if you're not willing to give those games a bit leeway for that, don't play them.

That said, some of the games I played late 90s/early 00s belong to the best games I ever played. But I played them back then and still play them now, btw.

It's best to learn what you actually like in games. That way it gets easier to choose what games can be for you.

I like action games where you shoot, fight, smash or defending yourself.
Basically just games where you don't have to walk in empty "open" World from Point A to point B to do quests or listening to tons of boring story that don't wanna let you to play the game

Watch gameplay videos and decide for yourself if a game is worth buying. Other people may have completely different tastes, so there's no point buying a game just because they say it's good.

Yeah

Then it makes no sense to play RPG games in the first place. Doing quests, leveling a character and having story (preferably with choices) is the point of such games.

Best to play Action-Adventures, Shooters or certain hack n slash games (Darksiders, Bayonetta and the like) then. Storeis can be quite forgettable in such games.

Yep, most games after 2014 are hot garbage, barely a triple A title released per year.

Then you have these indie games that try to mask themselves as "premium" quality and turn out to be not only pretentious in how the game is presented, but lacking any real depth or fun gameplay. They are also charging £20+

Then you have the hysteria of very thirsty gamers who need a new game fix and will hype up a piece of ♥♥♥♥ in order to secure their dopamine drip.

We are in an entertainment drought, it's all been said and done, and the only thing that can save us is a new platform. For example, elons Neuralink, hooked up to our brain to trick us into believing we are in an alternate reality (like in the movie strange days) then we can load cartridges of different environments. I am waiting to become a dolphin that's skull is cemented to a device that picks up discarded face masks in the ocean, a real purpose.

I still didn't buy GTAV because the cars don't have manual gears and i didn't like the playable characters.

I won't ever buy Elden Ring.

I did the same when Rocket League was in store and hugely popular. Just skipped it.

I didn't touch a Counter Strike game yet.

No LoL or PoE either despite being free.

Not bought a Resident Evil game yet, but i will buy RE: Village due to that giant Dimitrescu, not because of its high rating.

You see; when you have a certain taste over what you need in games, it saves both time&money.

Most games prior to 2014 were hot garbage too. Triple A doesn't really mean much, big studios have been pumping out mediocre and downright bad games since the dawn of PC gaming.

Have you ever considered, review gameplay before buying? Watch a YouTube gameplay so understand the game.
maybe you could do some research on understanding shopping addiction

Did you buy Elden Ring when everyone was hyping about that?
Did you play it?
If not, play it, it's like 10/10, if you're new to it just try to learn it and push through it, it's super worth it in the end.

Lol, please, if anything the average quality of games has shot up since 2014, thank you indie devs!
