Weird Steam Download Problem??
Hello,

So I have a very strange problem.
I'm downloading game on Steam using a gb fiber connexion.

Let me explain...
I'm downloading a random games for exemple Tomb Raider, BioShock at full speed (120mo/s)

BUT,
When i'm downloading for exemple, Cyberpunk, Multiversus, the download drops at 30mo/s.

BUUUT,
The thing is.. when I'm downloading the SAME games (Cyberpunk, Multiversus) on my laptop using the same connexion, Steam download them at 120mo/s

Someone here has any idea why it is doing that?

Thank you.

EDIT: for Cyberpunk and Multiversus, has exemples, when I first start the download, Steam peaks at 100mo/s but drops to 30mo/s and stay stable at 30mo/s

Is it possibly related to the harddisk/SSD you're using in each and what it can handle?
Or how fast the CPU is able to process the data or the like?

This. It's probably a disk writing issue. There's a lot of difference is hardware between laptops and desktops. I know Steam installs and downloads simultaneously, thus why it's probably an issue with your hard drive write/read speed, or the cables, etc.

Without knowing your specs on each system it's difficult to say though.

Both are using Samsung SSD and both are 3+ghz cpu.

So why am I able to download Tomb Rider at full speed but not Cyberpunk?

Because of the way the developer made their build be deployed on the machine
When someone uploads stuff to Steam, the developer breaks up the download into smaller parts so patches will be faster to apply (don't apply an update for the entire 20GB game if you only need to update 2.4KB of some file)
Some do it better some less so, and it could be the reason

Can you possible post models for both? and will see if can find any info on it?
If you got the Samsung magic app or what ever its called it has a speed test on it I belive so you can check if your SSD's have different write/read speed from each outher

Yeah actually.. I'm getting the same problem. No damn clue what the hell Valve did to their downloads but yeah I'm getting really weird download speeds down to within 500kbs and no higher after peaking at the start. I have no clue what the heck could be doing it

Again, why on my laptop it works fine, but on my main computer it doesn't (when downloading cyberpunk for exemple) my laptop download it at full speed but on my main it somehow stays around 30mo/s.

and I have a 870 Evo.

Here is a video exemple:

I be honest with you, just first of all, I am mostly guessing on the matter as PC's and networking is a messy things and there many moving parts involved on this

My guess is that one is simply faster on the matter of writing/reading from disk then the outher (Laptop faster then Desktop in your case)

Easiest way to maybe just check it, is try to run some speed test of the disks on both devices and see if you can spot a difference, it may also be that one is more full, or one has more things running in the background or something
The deference between downloads I think is likely how the developer package it
And the packaging will also effect what may slow it down or make it faster on updates or download

Here is an example of differing download speeds with the same drive,

Win7 machine = 44Mbs max usually settles at 30Mbps
Win 10 machine = 85Mbps last time I downloaded something.
Same model drive in both,

So Windows 10 perhaps has better I/O optimization, or your Win10 machine has a lot more RAM meaning more cache, and/or faster CPU meaning faster decompression?

Yes to the last 2. More/faster ram and faster CPU. That is what I was getting at. Same drive doesn't matter but the other parts do.

I have 24gb of ram, and ssd goes up to 600mo/s.
The thing that is not clear is why would a game would download full speed and the other wouldnt? Yes I agree that this may due to how the game was compressed by steam? Cause I noticed this problem is only on "recent" games.
