Steam library "collections/shelves" is a feature that I dont think I will ever use.
This is something that I only see a small percentage of people actually caring about (only a small subset of people own hundreds of games, and even a smaller percentage have enough ocd and patience to customize them into "favorites"). Ironically it is these people who usually have the largest voice because they find themselves alone more since a majority of people are offput by eccentricity.

As a working adult who works full time, and has a family, and a life, i barely get time to play the games i own, let alone dink around and categorize them. Hence it is a feature I do not see myself using now, or ever actually. Sure its nice, but they built a awful lot of this ui around a feature that at least half or more of their users will never actually use.

How out of touch are they from reality that they thought this was a good idea? Or maybe it is simply their target audience is kids, people who have no jobs and plenty of time to dink around with stuff like this.

Because while you don't use doesn't mean no one use it. Currently is using the "recent played games" because I have a very big list and looking for every single time when logging in is not fun.

And why did you feel the nee to let everyone know that the feature is not for you?
I use it. It's more comfortable than having to switch the views for categories all the time like in the old library.
Well, but I guess I am a kid or basement dweller in your eyes then for actually having taken the time and use the categorization feature in the first place.

I've never used the workshop or the broadcast features. I barely read the news section of a game's library page in the old format. I don't bother with curators much. In any event, I'm not pushing my opinion of these features on anyone else. Use what you use, ignore the rest.

"Only a small subset of people own hundreds of games"

Are you basing this on fact or is it just assumption? Do you actually know that you are not in the minority? It's not hard to amass hundreds of games over the years with things like humble bundles/monthly and various sales. In my eyes it's worthwhile to have the option even with a few dozen games.

Regardless of how prevalent 200+ game libraries are it doesn't make sense to rant about having collections available if you ever needed them. How much time did you spend just staring at your library window in anger about this? You just sound like a condescending, bitter person. Open the client and open the game you want, nobody is forcing you to make collections.

I am happy some people find this shelf thing nice, i hate it with a passion and the only little thing i want is a way to option out of it.

You can have no shelves at all in your library if you don't want to ('What's new' shelf aside)

My 'recently played' shelf bugged out since the last Beta patch and stopped being useful (which annoys me quite) But it was my topmost one. All my recent games at the reach of a click.

I'm also running a Collections shelf. To access any of my collections without having to go to the section itself (or scrolling the sidebar). It's like having folders in your library view

I use collections extensively to keep track of games played, what I think of them, etc.

I have collections for:

1) All games I have completed.
2) All the games I have liked.
3) The ones I don't care much about either way.
4) The ones I feel are pretty ♥♥♥♥.
5) Ones I have gotten all the achievements for.
6) Ones that are redundant (Betas, other versions of games eg. mod versions that came packaged with them).
7) Games that just don't work at the moment and I need to find mods/fixes for.
8) Games I haven't yet played.
9) A small group, but games that run poorly on my computer. I recently upgraded and I haven't gone back to check those.

A number of games occupy multiple collections (eg: Good, Completed, and 100% Achievement).

But then again. I may not be representative of people on steam. I actually don't mind the new library layout so I think I might be something of a heretic given what I have seen on these forums.

Link? I want to remove this abomination.

I have always used "collections" (formerly known as user catagories) to organize my games by genre. I use the side bar to find the genre and then select the game.

Shelves? left click the shelf then delete.
