SLOOOOOOW DOWNLOAD SPEED
I got 900 mb/s internet speed and yet when I am trying to download something off steam it will not go past 12mb/s. I tried restarting Steam and changing the region, but the speed is still very slow. I remember a few months back it used to download a game with over 80mb/s. Any advice?

Internet service speed does not guarantee that will be what things download as by default.

For starters, you're downloading at 96 Mbps (aka 12 MBs) which is fairly good. so, this comes down to I/O ability, CPU, and drive. That is by no means "slow".

Is your device the only ONE using that 1G connection ? @.@

Are there more devices?

Does this happen often with steam, what about other applications?

Are you multi-task-surfing when your connection is tanking ?

Do you know how to use Wire shark software ?

Have you try to use a Osi - Model to understand your network ?

That doesn't matter as much as you would think it does. https://imgur.com/a/UOSmU45

First off, remember that the speed reported by Steam by defualt is in MEGABYTES per second, not the usual megabits, so any result you should multiply by 8.

Next remember that all games are both encrypted and compressed. This means a few things. One, that it ain't just your net speed that limits things. It's your RAM, CPU, I/O, hard drive and more. You can see this by looking at the graph on the downloads page, and checking your Task Manager - if any of those resources are being hit pretty heavily, there's your bottleneck.

Next remember that your download drive mustn't go over 90% usage, and that you should always allow up to THREE times the total file size for the game you're trying to download. For example if you have a 1TB drive and you've used 800GB that equates to 80% so you have 100GB to play with. However, if you try to download an 80GB game you likely won't have enough space.

And if you start going over you will get slowdown, stopping completely or other weirdness like downloading to the wrong drive.

I have the same problem.
My internet used to download games at 65mb/s , but now it's only like 11mb/s.
I thought that maybe my internet got crapped or something

Exactly in the same boat as you

im having the same problem, on origin i download with 100MB/s speed but on steam it almost never goes over 40MB/s

Other game launchers are always faster than steam

Yes because of what I described above.

It's how Steam works. Intenet speed is not the limiting factor with steam. It's a combination of your I/O, RAM, CPU, hard drive and more./

Many users conflate Mbps with MBs, thus such a statement is usually extremely inaccurate. That, and most users that ignore important responses seem to gloss over that Steam downloads are different, and require more 'under the hood' to download compressed files, thus decompressing and installing them.

People with good to strong hardware and good connections can still download at the same speeds.

you've provided 0 followup, and no further information or anything important to the discussion, so the question is are you even attempting to do anything about it?
