Will Valve ever add old classic games to Steam?
This is my first time posting here, if it’s not in right subforum, the mods can move it, and I don’t know if a thread has been made like this before because I never gotten any results on google search.

My question is, why Valve won’t add old titles from the golden age of gaming that are only available through Torrents or if you can get an old copy of the discs?

GOG has been adding old classic games for a long time (I don’t use GOG for the records, I pirate old games) and updating them, but Valve a multi-billion dollar corporation cannot seem to get the rights and add these old games to Steam. I and many want my games on one platform, considering technology has advanced so much since the year 2000, adding and updating old games to be supported on modern hardware isn’t some nuclear science, considering back then tech and hardware was limited.

Some might argue that Valve can’t do this because they don’t have the rights to these games, and yes that’s true, however what I found it is that GOG updated Silent Hill 4 with patches for the players to be able to play. So, there must be a way around this for Valve to do the same thing.

I want to play games like The Suffering, The Punisher, Need for Speed Underground 2, The Silent Hill games (especially the first Silent Hill), Cryptic Passage for Blood, the classic Resident Evil games, Rule of Rose etc.

When you always try to sit on your chair on the computer, remember that every day, gaming doesn’t get better, the only breath of fresh air is Elden Ring, the rest meh, so revisiting old titles and adding them to the Steam store would be a breath of fresh air. Konami isn’t bothering with Silent Hill, so if GOG can get around it, so can Valve. Playing the first Silent Hill game on a 1440p monitor with M+KB controls would be a breath of fresh air.

Ask the license holders to bring their games to Steam.

Valve cannot “get around” the rights that owners have to their IP.

:spazdunno: “But I think GOG is doing so” isn’t going to compel them to try.

Now that Disney holds The Punisher license, the old game may never get ported and added to Steam.
Surreal Software (The Suffering) merged into Midway which then went to Monolithic which has been under Warner Bros. for ages.
Admitting to pirating games, regardless of how old they are, isn't a wise idea. Might want to edit that out. Steam has some classic games, but I do agree that it could do with more, but as friend mentioned. that's up to the current license holders to bring their games to the Steam platform.

Valve needs permission for the copyright holder of the game. They can't just take random files from off the internet and add them to Steam. That would be piracy and illegal.

Valve doesn't go looking for game either. They are open for any developer to put their game on Steam, if they so wish.

GOG gets permissions from the copyright holder as well as additional permission in some case, to modify the game and get it working on modern systems.

If you wish to see a specific game on Steam, please contact the game's developer/publisher or current copyright owner with such a request.

Keep in mind that any discussion of piracy is not allowed, as per the Discussions Rules and Guidelines.
