Why so much porn on steam

It's insane how many hentai/visual novel with nudity/porn games are constantly on the "new and popular" tab.

Actual indie games that have trouble getting the publicity they need and deserve on launch often only stay on that page for about 2 days, while i see so many porn games stay there for a week or longer.

What's up with that? How does this system of them being listed and staying even work?
Are there so many degenerates that buy every similar looking hentai game that the algorithm keeps them listed on the front page like that?


I'm all for allowing adult content in games and adult themed games being a thing to begin with, but it should definitely not constantly be on the front page like this.
99% of these "games" seem to be some rushed, copy paste sex games, they're more shameless than mobile games that feed on paying to progress.

You only see it if you opt in. Go to your preferences and opt out again.

You have to opt in to even be able to see the adult content titles... So I wouldn't be so quick to label others as "degenerate" if I were you...

I never conciously chose to see porn games mate and i doubt all my friends who expressed similar concerns have either.

Then either your definition of "porn" is rather loose, you didn't understand the settings when you accepted them, or someone else has access to your account.

And how can you know so exactly what decisions your friends make regarding their account settings?

Wow i'm already finally seeing new games i haven't heard about, although there's still some softcore succubus ♥♥♥♥ i can't filter without blocking out too much.

I still can't fathom why this isn't filtered out by default until chosen to unfilter or at least less popular than actual videogames, but the added filters definitely will make it less of an issue for me personally.

My definition of porn is clicking a vague ass title and the screenshots instantly showing an anime girl being penetrated from 3 directions with body fluids flying across the screen, followed by more of that and some screenshots of a homemade RPG or a dating sim-like menu of choices.

I know because i often scroll the steam store page or discussions while waiting for something ingame. Since this stuff is taking the majority of the "new and popular" tab 24/7 unless you filter it out like i did just now i've expressed how sad it really is and had my friends share their concerns.

I don't get why you act like i chose to have it flooded by hentai, because i don't recall opting in to it like you suggest.

Regardless of that my original point was that it's ridiculous that such shovelware is overshadowing actual indie games with actual game mechanics, further decreasing their chances in an already big and punishing market.

It's quite a convenient "narrow" section to keep an eye on any new interesting games you haven't heard about.
Indie games often go under the radar until you stumble upon them, it's probably rhe reason this exact tab is the one open by default on the front store page.

It is filtered out by default. You specifically have to enable seeing adult content.

Adult Only Sexual Content Is filtered by default. One has to opt in to see such content.

I suggest un-checking the box for Adult Only Sexual Content in the Preferences section. That will remove all games labeled as "Adult Only" in the Steam Store.

This will NOT filter out games with sexual content such as The Witcher series.
