It was said YEARS ago. I think it was on the old forums. And they are GONE. So I cannot do anything about that. I do know it happened and I wasn't imagining it because so many other regulars saw it and use it too.
Now the thing is with evidence is that if I cannot provided you simply take it with a grain of salt.
That's all.
That must have been another later post then, but I absolutely thank you for that.
Theearlier one I remember was more of a just general term that it wasn't made for being a full blown browser and they didn't give much more details. There's bound to have been several times they mentioned this.
So thank you.
I just replied to this post, from the steam browser, that is currently bugged and cannot display reddit pages correctly. I'm really glad that the steam browser wasn't meant for browsing web pages, that means that the problem with reddit is fixed! Wait a second, that isn't true. At all.
General idiocy aside, I can confirm this bug. Its annoying since lots of game discussion and guides are on reddit now, and its useful to be able to look them up without tabbing out of the game.
Way to misrepresent my point AGAIN.
What don't you understand abou tit not being INTENDED as that? I never said anywhere you couldn't use it as that and explained this. Go back and read previous responses.
Who's the idiot now? eh? :)
It's a reddit-caused issue, not a Steam caused issue. I've even had a reload loop on mobile unless using the old reddit link. Though I would strongly advise not using such garbage tier social media sites to begin with.
Yup, the idea of jumping to conclusions all the time with "I have aproblem and others have it too therefore it must be STeam" is just ridiculuos.
Obviously it COULD be, but it's a leap of faith.
Please show me where Valve has said that the steam web browser isn't intended to browse the web. And deleted message board posts you claim to remember seeing don't count.
Reddit stopped working in the steam browser. I would like it to work again, and I think that is a reasonable expectation. Dont break the user experience with no warning! If the underlying cause is Valve shipping an old javascript engine, then consider this a feature request instead of a bug report. A matter of customer advocacy, perhaps. Expecting a web browser to be able to load one of the most popular websites is perfectly reasonable (I mean c'mon, even Lynx can load reddit). Spending a dozen forum posts trying to say 'it isn't, actually,' is just plain weird.
Do you work for valve? Would you be the one that has to implement a modern browser framework? Why are you so determined to say that people shouldn't expect reddit to be usable from the overlay? Truely a bizarre position.
I don't have the link because I suspect it was on the old forums as it was so long ago.
You can choose to take this with a pinch of salt but you can also ask any of the regulars on here and they'll agree they saw it too as it was mentinoed several times.
No I don't work for Valve but when they expressly publicised this explanation I take them at their face value.
Even I do trust that this was Valve's official stance, my point does not change. Valve is shipping and supporting a web browser. It should support modern web technologies and the largest websites because that is the behaviour a user will expect of a web browser.
If Valve is explicitely not providing a fully functional web experience, then that should be expressed by the company. And not just by old heads saying "dude trust me"
Why? You claim that, but the fact remains is that they introduced this functionallity PURELY to allow certain web-based functions to run.
If you claim they SHOULD do this, well sorry mate, but you ain't Valve.
All I can tell you is what IS. I only deal with facts. Sorry.
If you want a workaround, replace the www for old
Example: www.reddit.com becomes old.reddit.com
Seems to work with any reddit link
All I can do is provide facts based on data.
That's what these users are for on these forums. We help others.
And I can only repeat what Valve have said in the past. I don't know of any workaround so I'm glad someone offered it. But that doesn't change the fact that of what I've said.
