Discord causes slow download speeds
So this is a problem that has been going on for a long time, and I wanted to see if anyone here has an idea on why this would happen and how to fix it. When I enter a discord call with a friend any game downloads I am currently doing go extremely slow (100-500Kb/s) but when I disconnect the call they immediately shoot up to 8-15Mb/s. And upon reconnecting they plummet back to 100-500kb/s. This always happens, and it's become standard to disconnect the call when we decide to get a game so it downloads faster. Any help on this is appreciated.

Basic computer knowledge: trying to download something while doing things that require internet in the background slows down the download process.

While you're correct, I'm surprised that a Discord call would use up this much bandwidth. For me, I drop from a 50 MB/s download speed to 12 MB/s with a single person call. It's shocking.

Well, video and sound can use up lots of bandwidth/computer resources
Is that a video call? If yes it needs the bandwidth

Discord has a QoS option that forces the router to pretend Discord is more important than everything else.

"Enable Quality of Service High Packet Priority"
This setting will slow down everything else.

Hardware Acceleration settings may also slow down other stuff.

Other things you cannot control. Just don't use Discord while using Steam.
Likely it is indeed just throttling other stuff so that it can ensure high quality connections / laglessness in video conversations.

Discord is Tencent stuff, so you can expect it to send everything, not just audio, even when video is turned off.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
