Should VALVe take down those cheating websites?
I don't sure about cheating in online games is a bad thing. But should VALVe issues a Take down notice to cheating websites so can reduce cheaters in our gaming community?

And that would reduce it how? You know how cheap it is to just put up another website?

Yes, there are cheaters in the gaming community.

Do you know them all by name, country, phone number, etc?

Because no, you do not, and no, you can never stop them.

Steam can only deal with things *ON THEIR OWN SERVERS AND SYSTEMS* and they do this using Vac and Overwatch bans.

They cannot and should never be allowed to 'take down' sites that aren't theirs. If those sites are operating in a country where a) valve has licensing, and b) they have anti-gambling or other such laws, then they can ask the host to take the site down.

That'll last all of 10 minutes.

You want to stop people from cheating in games?

Change human nature to not want to cheat

They can only remove what's within their own platform. They have basically no jurisdiction on taking down websites unless they're completely and solely making chests for vac protected games.

Wish the authorities would take them down. Pretty sure there is some law they're breaking. Probably fraud, or aiding and abetting criminal activity.

You know what happens when 1 site gets taken down? They spend 99 cents and make another one.

Which is why you arrest the criminals running the site.

Criminals? "Cheating in video games" is not against any law.

Cheats are not a crime. It is a TOS/SSA violation, so the people can only really be sued, if you can even identify them and serve them. If they live in a country that has no agreement with the US about such things, then there is nothing that can be done.

It is a very complex situation.

Valve is not the Internet police. And depending on the circumstances they may not have any ability or recourse to get the results you imagine. And it's not as if people running scams or cheats are morons... this has been an uphill battle for decades and a lot more refined than you think.

We're not talking about some kid who's linking to something in YouTube or Twitch, companies that are keen to enforce favorable laws...

Why just Valve? Why not every gaming platform, publisher and developer?

Why is Valve gaming's mom exactly?

This is an idea that sounds great, if you've got no concept of the true scope of the issue.

Yes just magically arrest them. It's not like they're routing data to conceal their actual location. Just do it 4Head.

I assumed that cheats for online multiplayer games would violate the same laws hacking does, due to the fraudulent nature of such cheats.

Hacking would involve accessing the servers. Cheats modify the game files, typically in memory. Cheats are as illegal as modding a game is, hence why it is a TOS/SSA violation and not a legal one.

Some countries have laws against cheats (Korea I think, but am not 100% sure) but they are very few.
