Nothing really. Some people think it can tell if someone is a trusted person or not. I consider it useless spam and something any scammer worth their salt will have in their profile since they'll use other accounts to comment on the profile.

Only foolish people will trust someone based on a comment from a random user.

It's a useless, unofficial "reputation" """system""" that people came up with as an attempt to highlight the "good" users from the "bad" users in the Steam community by posting a "+REP" or a "-REP" comment on profiles respectively.

Now the problem with it is that users can easily delete any "-REP" comments on their profile and/or have other accounts (friends or alts) spam a bunch of "+REP" comments instead.

This """system""" is only used by two kinds of users:

• The new/naive users who don't know any better.
  
• Scammers who prey on said new/naive users by faking positive feedback on their profile to appear trustworthy.

TL;DR: Ignore it.
