Discussion seem to be missing a key feature
I don't know if it's productive to spam a thread with 'I agree" to other comments, wouldn't it be a lot easier to read a gauge public opinion for things like game improvement ideas if likes were a thing?

As I said this would apply on any Suggestion threads. On a single-player sandbox game, for example, if there are is a post about a request for multiplayer, then a simple agree/disagree follow up post from other users is more than enough to gauge support. Ah but the thing is, you're missing the point here.

Yes, I gave the suggestions as an example because it can be used there and have purpose. But in your case of say on a forum where you're asking for a feature YOU Might think it works, but that does not give it purpose.

Most devs don't want to to know what you think should be included in a game. They only need to know if they WANT that.

So to apply the point here - sure they could enable it on a thread, kind of like on Youtube where you can add a poll.

I feel that would be the best thing rather than a global and sweeping available on every post.thread because it'd be utterly useless for most things. All it'd do is make things worse by clogging up threads with pointless crap.

Posters can type i agree, others can report it as spam and a moderator will decide if it is spam or not.

I got a warning for posting +1 a few months back.

But I assume each forum is different.

It would not hurt, though I do not see anything wrong with agree/disagree response, especially if the original point made was already self-explanatory, it makes it easier to see how different sides compare to each other in threads like that.

Yeah no, that's not even what clutter means lol. I literally just meant actual clutter which obscures/spreads out (more) reading worth input by users.

Also you just said "+1" is against the general rules above, yet "I agree" on it's own being completely identical in what it does is different... because it uses 6 letters instead?

the discussion rules provide examples of what is treated as spam. it is not a list of what is spam.

the forums are for discussions, and only posting I agree is not really much of a discussion unless the person posting it was already involved in the discussion.

Your defintion of clutter needs moderator approval to deem it so and include it as spam while you continue to ignore the advice given because you are not getting affirmation of your viewpoint when you have been given an answer.

Report a thread or individual posts and let a moderator decide what is clutter, spam etc.

I understood your point very clearly. You have defined "i agree" as unneccesary and deem it requires a "gauge of public opinion" whilst ignoring REPORT any post or thread you believe contains spam.

Secondly to "gauge public opinion" you would have to do a poll or survey which is against the rules.

Informal forum polls probably shouldn’t be given much weight outside of forum-specific stuff (and even trusting them there is dodgy).

Saying "I agree" isn't really discussion. That's kind of why it forms part of the spam thing.

A discussion means you actually add, disagree or contribute in some way.

Saying "I agree" is not the remit of these forums. It might work on something like the suggestions forum here, but not on most of the other mains.

OP seems to be focusing on threads in any forum about new ideas and suggestions, not necessarily just in the general Steam forums but also specific game forums, to which the like system would make sense IF there were a way to gauge how many people do not like it as well.

If the idea - by the OP or another argument further in the thread - was already good and well constructed, many people will not elaborate further; i.e. I do not see the need to say the same thing that was mentioned by the OP and/or other users just so I can say I agree or disagree.

from experience if you do first or another +1 you get
a forum ban... and that can be in any forum.... or a different forum

and ban times increase the more you do it.... yay for fun... :cozydbd:
