users should be able to mark NSFW images by themselves
whenever i visit the cross-game community art section to check out cool new art for the newest populal games i get slapped in the face by nudity, borderline porn, and sometimes literal porn.

some of the game art that is featured in the community section are from actual hentai games like "mirror" or "hentai karen" "hentai gril" or "wallpaper engine" which 90% of it's art section is full of sexually provocative images of girls almost completely nude with only their nipples "strategically" covered.
and yes. i have all possible filters on in my prefrences, sexual games shouldn't be visible, all nudity and gore is supposed to spoilered.
but it's clear to everyone that whatever AI that's supposed to autmatically detect and sensor these images is completely broken. hell, it was broken for YEARS. this is like the 5th time i making a thread like this in the bast decade and im quite sick of this. something has to be done.
the report function obviously doesn't help the filtering AI to improve it, it sometimes takes DAYS for a report to finally make an image dissappear from my feed.
and if after a whole bloody decade this damn automatic filter still can't identify what makes an image NSFW its obviously useless.

the argument that people will abuse the NSFW tags is completely invalid, because it can't be any worse than what we have now. most people are willing to tag their images as NSFW, hell i have seen users that tried to improvize by tagging their sexual images as story spoilers - which does place a big black square on the image. simply because they have no ability to tag them as NSFW.
im sick and tiered of having my eyes assualted with sexual imagery that failed to be screened by the automatic filter. give more power to the users, like every other online forum does.

to prove im not a prude or a religious zealot here's a sample of a few actual NSFW images that the filters find completely safe:

obivious NSFW warning, hover your cursor over the empty space only if you are willing to see sexual imagery

you still haven' explained why you are so against letting users tag their own uploads as NSFW.

Self tagging is voluntary making it a flawed suggestion, after all you cannot complain if uploaders do not tag what they do not see as NSFW.

People will totally complain though. If this were implemented, we'd get the following:

Gallant uploads NSFW images and tags them as such for the benefit of fellow users who don't want to see that kind of thing.

Goofus uploads NSFW images and doesn't tag them at all. Every other day there's a new thread in this forum where someone's naming-and-shaming Goofus and posting 1,000 words about how it's the worst crime in history that they accidentally saw a titty.

Functionally, nothing has changed.

thats ok...

goofus will get a report and a warning firstly...

then a ban if goofus decides to continue not labelling correctly...

and then a longer ban if they continue... i am sure they will decide what
future they want... with posting pic options...

we already do it for the spam and stuff..

so, i do not know about the rules for posting pics, but if it is against the rules in the first place to post nsfw, i can see why they would not give the user that option. i could also see why people would not use it. it would be them straight up admitting they are breaking the rules

full nudity is allowed as long as you don't post actual sex acts. so yeah posting exposed breass and sexually provocative "clothes" is fully allowed, they are supposed to be automatically tagged as nsfw and censored for anyone who who doesn't want to see this sort of crap but the filter constantly fails to tag the right images.
so it's only natural and fair that the uploading users could tag their own stuff as nsfw so we wouldn't have to rely on this unreliable automatic filtering ai

what exactly is your suggestion? not allowing anyone to mark their stuff as NSFW or requiring everything uploaded to be held till someone from steam looks at it and marks it appropriately?

it is far easier to let people mark the stuff themselves and let the community report problems.
ok

So the suggestion is "i deem them NSFW therefore everyone else should".

Secondly hypocritical to complain of NSFW images then posting examples of what you deem NSFW images under spoiler tags.

And finally you obviously took your time "browsing" the content to find them.

A. the suggestion is for people to have the ABILITY to tag them as nsfw. right now, no such option EXISTS, i am forced to rely on a defective poorly optimized filter instead of the uploader's own judgement.
if the uploader honestly belives his upload is not sexual it wouldn't be nearly as frustrating as having the image simply pass through the filter.

B. the images i posted in the example are all images i stumbled upon them, all of them passed through my filter even though they were blatantly NSFW. it is undeniable proof the filter is a completele faliure and that users should have the option to tag their own uploads
Well here's the thing - you ssume it's POORLY defined, but how do you know it's not YOU that have skewed perceptions instead?

The thing to remember is that this metric is taking into accoutn ALL countries, circumstances, and so on. They are going to be a middle ground.

If YOUR personal morals are adrift from this then maybe, just maybe YOU ought to look into that.

ffs, i have put examples of images that the filter failed to censor. are people blind? it should be obvious to all it's terrible at doing its job.
also, as i said already, if someone honestly belives their images is not sexual i can tolerate it, but not when it simply a cause of a terrible algorithm

That's not how this works.
Again, nudity is allowed as already explained.
Only straight up porn isn't allowed.

So, unless you can provide evidence of stuff that is normally found on a special website with Hub in it's name... your complaints are invalid instantly.

Again, NSFW is allowed.

Well then that's the point isn't it?

You've already been told how to do this - report it and leave them to it. If it is, it'll get fixed. If it ain't nothing will happen. That's the point.

So if it remains the same, then the issue IS as I stated.

The point I'm getting at here is that whenever I see posts like this on here, so many posters think they have the most pure arbitration of what is deemed correct and that simply is impossible.

The fact is, as I said, that Valve has to cater for all countries and circumstances. When you get countries like some of the more religious areas of America they are very out of date and regressive.

So the pouint I'm getting at is to be introspective - ALWAYS hold a mirror up to yourself and think "an I the one with the off normal perspective".

looks like i have to repeat myself once again:
A. report function barely works, it sometimes takes literal DAYS until the sexual image gets censored.
B. a proper filter is supposed to work in the way that i wouldn't have to deal with sexual images that i need reporting. it's supposed to be used for rare abuse cases, not for the masses of NSFW images that get passed the broken filter.
C. there is not a single good reason why allowing users to tag their uploads shouldn't happen, it's a feature that hurts no one and gives control to actual people and not a literally braindead program.
peoplel ike you who are against it must be either contrarian or spiteful against everyone who hates sexual imagery

It makes no sense to be this upset over images that literally do not break the rule as explained above.

If you can't bother acknowledging people pointing out your incorrect assumptions about nudity, then everything you say is literally fruit of the poisonous tree.

Please don't try to fight nudity like this.
It will backfire cataclysmicaly

the NSFW filter exists for a reason. just becaise posting NSFW images is allowed doesn't mean it shouldn't be filtered when i intentionally ticked all the possible filter options.

as i said before, the problem is that the NSFW filter DOES NOT WORK. im getting realy sick of repeating myself.
the clear solution is obvious - allow users to tag their own uploads as NSFW to compensate for the automatic filter's deffectiveness. there is literally no downside to this and yet here you are throwing vague warnings at me that it will somehow horribly backfire on me.

wtf is wrong with half the people here?
davidb11 2022 年 3 月 14 日 下午 4:51
You're being too angry here.
That's why people are resisting you.

Be like what Al Capone said, "You can do more with a kind word and a gun, than a kind word alone."
You just need to work on the kind word first. :P

Also, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, etc.

The point being, people are inherently lazy, and very few people would check the box labeling something as NSFW.
Don't look at me, it's literally human nature.

1) you have to be 13+ to use steam. 13 year olds have seen much worse than some screenshots from some weeb porn game or wallpaper engine. you've had your steam account 12 years so you're atleast 25.
2) while it may seem like a good solution to just mark stuff manually as nsfw, steam staff do not care to moderate screenshots or artwork. you can report content for being posted in the wrong sections but nothing will happen. people regularly use steam as their personal image share, you see it all the time. for this reason i don't know why you'd even look through the general 'artwork' section as it's 99.9% not game artwork.
3) even if steam did care to moderate it, they can't be trusted to do it fairly and indiscriminately.
