Going into Steam. I like to keep my desktop free of icons.
Sometimes if I'm feeling saucy I'll launch a game from the Steam icon in the taskbar.

I don't generally put a lot of icons on my desktop; however, since Steam autostarts anyway, I just use the Steam menu in the notification area to launch my game.

I keep my desktop as free of icons as possible.
I prefer to launch from within the Client, or when possible to launch from local files, especially if a game I own is DRM-free and can be launched without Steam client running at all.

I'd say that all are viable options but all options are viable and easy. because with all three no matter what, you have to wait for steams startup cycle.

I personally use desktop icons because my rubbish laptop that cant even run 4 GB ram games even with 5 GB free. At the highest I can have about 7 at the least 1.

all ways to start steam games are fine

right clicking the steam icon in the task tray, pretty much all games ever I play are in it..
if it's a new game or something not in that list, I would do it from the library

I prefer grouping my game icons on my desktop by genre since I have much of my library installed at once.

Directly from Steam due to a large library of installed games.

I use the client to launch my games.

I just do it through Steam or Playnite. Mostly because I like to have things pretty simple and being disabled and sat in bed with a load of platforms by the side of me, streamlining things is easiest for me.

This a large majority of the time.
On the rare occasion, launching from the library.

Depends. Mostly, I start games by pressing Win then typing the few first letters of the game. Sometimes, I do it from the taskbar jump list, sometimes from the Steam library.

Ditto.

Right clicking the icon lets me load any of the last five games I recently launched. The majority of the time that is enough.

I don't really use desktop shortcuts much. I always thought they were mainly for people who don't understand PC's and can never find a file or program ever again if it isn't an icon the desktop :happymeat:

Do you want it in the near future, or are you willing to wait months?
Keep in mind that even those people that reserved a SteamDeck back in June 2021 are still waiting for their opportunity to even buy one and some even get Q3 2022 as their expected quarter to actually order one.

I double-click an icon like God intended.
