Steam causes lag on Discord calls
Hi, so I just got a new rig, Ryzen 5 5600X, RTX 3070 and 16GB RAM and I've noticed that whenever I download games on steam the audio from Discord calls gets laggy, streams on discord work fine, people hear me perfectly, but on my end their audio cuts and it's weird. This didn't use to happen in my old PC, I had the exact same internet connection (100mbps over Ethernet cable) and I use the exact same cable, so I really am clueless as to why this happens. It's only a minor annoyance, but it'll eventually drive me insane, any suggestions or solutions?

Thank you! :)

I would consider that an issue if it was an issue on my previous PC, but it never has been, so why only after getting a new one?

Because either there's some sort of bottleneck or you may have some software causing a thorttling or blocking issue.

how would I even be able to troubleshoot this? like I said, it's a minor annoyance but it's still something I'd like to fix

Don't download and call people at the same time

Process of elimination basically.

You would have to go through each program one by one. Obviously leave programs that you're sure are fine like Windows mandatory programs. But if there's programs that are supplied by your PC manufacturer (or motherboard manufacturer or graphics card) then I'd start there.

By omitting or disabling them you then see how it performs.

Yup basically cast as wide a net as you can - I know it's a pain in the arse but you've got to be througuh.

Basically suspect anything that isn't a necessary Windows process.
