People wishlisting free games
Why do some people wishlist games that are free?
Is there any specific reason to do so?

I would do it sort of as an ad hoc favorites list. Maybe I don't have an intention of installing it, playing it or adding it to my library. But next time I look at my wishlist I might be , "Oh yeah". I can see if my initial interests still exists or not.
because I might want to play them later and want them in my wishlist when I look for something new to play but don't have money for it.

So they can play them later.

Its a place to place them. Easy Access.
Wishlisted games also ping to the developers how many players have an interest.
When you wishlist enough games you'll see they get weekend deals and specials and we get notifications via emails.
Even free games may add new stuff go out early access and we get notifications.

Easy access.
Steam doesn't keep f2p games in your account unless it's mmo or you have spend something in it.

To find them later when I'm in the mood to play them. Discoverability on Steam is terrible and the Wishlist is the best option to keep track of things across devices/browsers.

I have free to play games in my library that I didn't spend a single cent on and didn't even install - as soon as you click the "play" or "install" button, they are added to your account permanently.

Some games also cost money when they were added, but later turned free to play.

Not all F2P games are added to your library. Take Dota 2 as example. Once you've uninstalled the game you'd have to go to it's store page to download it back.

It's showing in my library, despite having never been played or even installed

Note that by making a group, you'll get an entire forum that you can use for stuff like that 😀

Maybe make a second account as a backup-admin, in case you accidentally leave that group... although that hasn't happened to me yet.

Mostly as a reminder. If one isn't actually sure that one will play the game, keeping it on the wishlist means that the game doesn't get forgotten about without adding extra clutter/backlog to the library.

Because I can sort my wishlist and see all of the free to play games and their ratings easily, many free games can't be added to the library without installing them.

You also get recommendations on the store page similar to games on your wishlist.

"Because you wished for..."

I wish-list games cus I am interested in them. It doesn't matter if they are free, I still might not download it.
