How do I see old passwords?
I used to have a different password on my account, but it was hard to remember, so I changed it. Now, I want to see what my older passwords were, but I don't know how to do it. Can you help me?

You can't. That would be a huge security risk.

Passwords are stored in a way that they can't be reverse-engineered from the checksum. So no, there's no way to see them in plain text.

Did you ever use a browser to log in? maybe saved in there instead.

Yeah the only way to get to know your old password would be to try and look from your programs (such as browsers maybe?) that could've stored the password in plain text.

This should explain how password checks work these days https://youtu.be/yoMOAIzBSpY

I never used my steam password for something other than my Nintendo Network ID, and I don't know what it was, that is why I'm trying to figure out what it was. I'm genuinely upset that spent $20 on the Wii U for a game that was listed, only to learn that the game was for the 3DS.

Because that would mean passwords are saved on the servers. Remember the Sony hack? That's why it's a security risk.
A properly done service only saves a HASH value and SALTs it on top. It can be used to verify a password, but not be used to reverse calculate one.

Because people like you use passwords across several services.
If I gain access to your Steam account, I can just use this username or email to try to gain access to several other services.

Which, btw, is one way most accounts get "hacked".

Let's just say for the sake of argument, that hypothetically you stole that account. If you could see the users old passwords, you may be able to access other accounts of theirs.

Security risk.

Why do you want an old password so badly anyway? Hmmm? Seems fishy.

Seriously 'the old password' might be the original account owner's password.

If it's yours, *write it the hell down* and keep it somewhere reasonably safe - if you're in a dorm or in a house with multiple people who may want to use your account, MEMORIZE IT.

There's nothing worse than having an account stolen, and account security is your responsibility. Do what YOU need to do, to remember your own password, and keep it safe. It's not Steam's job, but they do their level best to protect accounts. This would fly in the face of all sane protections.

That means steam store your password in a way that they can tell you what it is. That fundamentally means it’s stored in an insecure manner.

If some website could tell you what your previous passwords were, I would immediately deactivate my account from such a site that has such poor security measures
Use password recovery from nintendo.
Refund the game that was sold with wrong details

Ahhh for example if people use the same password for everything they could easily hack into emails and all that therefore huge security risk use your brain mate
