Removing games from library to buy again?
Hi all

Just wondering if there is a way to remove games from my library so that I can purchase them again? Sounds crazy but here's the reason, I had CoH ages ago and when it went to steam I switched and put CD keys into steam etc but it still needs the game disk to play. Now, 5 years later I can't find my game disks but want to play it again!

It's currently massively on sale too so I want to just buy again but it won't let me as I already own it, and if I gift it I have to gift the entire bundle away which also doesn't help me play it.

Any suggestions? I did think of making a new steam account just to buy it and play again but then I won't have friends etc on that account.

Thanks

Search for game here at the bottom... https://help.steampowered.com/en/

Choose it and remove it.

Have you installed the game from disk still or downloaded via Steam?
Once you add them to Steam it should enable you to download and play them without disc (which is the whole point of Steam). However, an existing installation will not be affected by it.

I just removed completely and purchased again, thanks. It's only £4 for entire collection at the moment.

You have the game on Steam but it still requires physical CD instead in your CD ROM to play it?

If game is installed on PC and Steam verifies that you own the game, why is CD required?

And if you get .iso of that game and mount it, would game work then?

It's been a bug with CoH since it transferred to steam, it has always wanted the disk even when I used to play through steam. I'm not the only one to encounter it but it never bothered me before as I had the disks.

Yeah, that's weird. I also have the CD version of CoH and Opposing fronts. I entered both into Steam and got 3 entries:
- CoH legacy version;
- CoH Opposing Fronts legacy version;
- CoH new Steam version with Opposing Fronts as DLC.

The latter is the one I currently have installed and which works.

It's weird that it still asks you for the CD-version. Are you sure you don't have the New Steam version somewhere between your uninstalled games?

I never bought or activated any CoH games.
Only thing I could find in https://store.steampowered.com/account/licenses/ is Company of Heroes 2 PROMO https://steamdb.info/sub/223873/
Funny thing is that I don't even remember activating it.

But somehow I have in my Steam Library these games:
-Company of Heroes
DLC: Company of Heroes (New Steam Version) - Core Game
-Company of Heroes Legacy Edition
-Company of Heroes 2

All of them works perfectly without need for CD.

You don't need the CD for the Steam version. The Legacy version mentioned is the old CD-version, which through Steam doesn't actually need the CD. It's mainly for multiplayer purposes that the New Steam version is the one to play, I believe.

Like I said, it's weird that it asks for the CD version. Heck, the CD-version didn't need the CD's, unless you didn't connect to the Relic servers and played offline. Only times I needed the CD was when the Relic servers were down.

This is going to get locked soon because you reopened a almost 5 year old thread however as most do not know this games are *almost* never permanently removed as long it is done by you as the client.

Here is and example. Please note I choose something random this does not express my thoughts of this product.
https://go.screenpal.com/watch/cZhFI5VLu6Y

This also works for games that are delisted from Steam and no storepage is accessible as long as you know the appid you just have to manually input the url like so
This is a example game called Fractured Space that is no longer published on Steam but as you can see you can still access the dedicated support page.
You can retrieve appid's by sites like steamdb.
Example for this game https://steamdb.info/app/310380/

In order to have this work you need to have owned a license at some point before it got removed.

There is only one exception to this rule
If it was Steam that removed the game because it violated there terms or a law.

You cant rebuy a game you removed from your library. If you uninstall it you can just reinstall it and if you use the "remove from account" option on the Support page you can at any time restore the license by going through the same process.
If you try to rebuy a game you "removed" it will say something like " you previously removed this game from your account, do you want to restore the license?"
They will not let you buy the game again if you previously removed it, just restore the old license again.

I was able to revoke the "vanilla" Control key so I could activate the "complete" edition.

You did not need to revoke the old key for that, any key that adds something new to the version you already own can be activated. It adds the missing stuff but nothing else.
So if you own the base game and try to activate a GOTY edition with all the DLC it will just all add the missing DLC to your base version.
