VPNs are the worst!

Hi, I love everyone. Please start ranting about how no one should ever use a VPN. Thanks!

No, your CHOOSING to use a VPN and then CHOOSING to weaken your account because you don't want to be bothered to put in your 2FA code. Steam isn't weakening your security, your laziness and refusal to change how you operate is.

Ok then your weakening your security thru your choice by using a VPN. No one to blame but yourself then.

I have the same question.

It’s not like the VPN makes you that much “safer” either - it’s a marketing ploy mostly. 2FA though is very secure.

I have long used a password manager and a very long, complex password, along with 2FA. But because I have to log in constantly, and that presents a constant hassle, I am going to shorten and simplify my password, and disable 2FA.

Why shorten your password?
Most PW Managers should be able to autotype entries into the field they should go.....

Steam works fine with F-Secure Freedom, which I use and I don't have any problems. As long as your region is set properly to your banking country, you shouldn't have any problems and it IS allowed.

VPNs dont provide what you think its providing but hey you know you keep believing that nonsense every VPN provider pretends its doing so they can fleece your wallet

If you think its providing 'privacy' or 'security' then really you don't actually understand VPNs at all.

Wow, the vitriol is off the charts, as if I struck a nerve here.

I do CHOOSE to use a VPN. It is fundamental. If I stop using my VPN, as you imply I should, my privacy and security will suffer. That is a worse sacrifice than my stated solution. Have you listened to yourself?

"Don't weaken your password or disable 2FA. Just stop using a VPN!"

I use different IP addresses regularly. Never been asked to re-log in.

Are you changing regions/countries regularly by any chance? If so, then that may be the issue. If you set the VPN to your region/country only, then that could resolve the issue.

VPN makes you vastly safer, if you use a good one.

My mistake was posting this on a forum where most people have no clue about anything. Sorry.

Most VPNs actually keep a high amount of data on the users of the VPN, so it's more or less self defeating, especially since any warrant they'll give them the paying member that had that IP, so they already would know who you are, where you went etc.

So unless you choose one that doesn't actually record what you do/where you go, you're not really better off compared to not using social media, and using a PiHole (See: Raspberry Pi "PiHole")

Launch the VPN before launching Steam, and you'll only be asked once for a login/Steam Guard unless the IP/IP region changes
