Banned for chargeback I didn't make?
Steam thinks I made a chargeback on a game I bought when I haven't done anything. There is money in the bank account I used and the steam purchase is still in my pending transactions. I'm really confused as I didn't do anything. I tried googling it but I can't find anything about cards making a chargeback without your permission.

edit: it's a debit card

Call your bank, see what the holdup is.

Nothing to add to a list. Chargebacks can be done by the card company automatically if they detect fraud. You'd have to contact the card company to reverse it.

Pretty sure my bank would be able to see whether or not the card company had done that. In my case the money is out of my account. The payment is going through.

If you paid via credit card how is the money out of your bank account? Credit cards don't pull money out of your bank account.

Your bank and credit card company aren't necessarily related (unless you got your credit card FROM your bank and even then its usually handled by two totally different departments)

Or as they say outside of London

"Can't be no chargeback when they still got my cash"

Sure there can be, when chargebacks are issued it takes time for the transactions to be reversed. You can easily do a chargeback and not see the money returned for several days or longer. It's not unusual for it to take up to a week for the credit to post and the company knows immediately you issued a chargeback.

However what the OP is describing doesn't make sense. If he bought something via credit card then the money isn't going to be taken out of his account until he pays his credit card bill. It's not going to pull the money out of account when he buys a game....

I am aware that my bank and visa are two separate entities. It may very well be that visa cancelled the transaction between them and steam. But the transaction between my bank and visa has gone through. I don't have the money any more and my bank see no evidence it is ever coming back.

Neither Visa nor my bank are acknowledging that the payment hasn't been processed.

But thanks for your 'help'.

Again, thats not how a credit card works. If you made a purchase via a credit card its not going to be pulled from your bank account. It goes on your credit card statement that you then pay at the end of the month so the money wouldn't be pulled from your account unless you used a debit card.

There is no transaction between your bank and visa until you pay your statement, hence why i'm trying to clarify the transaction.

This is a CREDIT CARD you used and not a debit card right?

Ok that is something different and makes more sense. Is it for Visa?

I am having the same issue. I purchased the Last Spell on June 6th with a visa debit card. I log on today to see that the payment was disputed, and I am locked out for a month. The bank said the money is sitting there, reserved, waiting to be taken. They said this is on steams end - nothing is wrong on their end. They also said they noticed an influx of people calling about this exact issue...I know this comment does not resolve anything, but seems we are not the only ones.

Same issue.

Bank has absolutely no idea, the payment was made, it hasnt been refunded, nothing wrong with my account/card, no notes of any chargeback etc.

Waiting on Steam Support reply

Did you buy the game on the 6th?

Best to add your name to the thread I posted above. Power in numbers.

Yep i did! Paid for on 6th

Have done on the other thread and noted the date too, 6th seems like the common issue, a bit of peace of mind for myself that nothing overall wrong with my account/bank account and some other error going on.
