Ban appeal process?
When a forum ban (not a game ban) is appealed does it go back through the forum moderator who issued the ban or does it go through someone else?

Just so everyone is on the same page, this isn't your first thread about your ban: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/7/3118160027738537094/

As Totoro said, in the previous thread, if you wish to appeal your ban reply to the message. It doesn't really matter who reads it because that's your only option. There's no other channel for appeal.

Thanks for the offer of “a response?”, but the question remains. It probably doesn’t matter as I assume forum moderators aren’t static and rotate around with different lists of forums to moderate, but was curious none the less if ban appeals were sent through them or another section of Steam management.

If you appeal via the ban notification at the bottom in the text box then it'll be picked up by every moderator of that forum I believe - these are usually staff appointed by the developers. If you feel that the ban is unfair and any appeal is unsuccessful, you'll have to contact support. They rarely overrule mod decisions in spaces managed by the developers though.

If you reply to the ban message, the support personnel or moderator that issued it would get a notification (as long as they didn't unsubscribe from notifications). Of course any moderator in that forum also can see any of the bans/replies.

I tend to only reply in cases of clear misunderstandings but responses to the tune of "the ban is not fair" are ignored.

Otherwise contact Steam support.

And to add even more context to those that don't know that seemingly innocent statement most likely got banned because the forum mods aren't going to sit and ignore jokes about self harm even if its about the characters in the game.

My eyes rolled so far back after reading this reply everything’s upside down, but at least you get the reference that the moderator obviously didn’t. To be clear, the ban had NOTHING to do about the CHARACTER named “Yuri” and instead was issued because the moderator mistakenly thought the statement was directed in a negative way toward the ACCOUNT named “Yuri”.

Based on what you know about the story, about the context of the banned reply, do you not see why a ban like this is an issue? I’m literally being punished for referencing a character from a game in that games forum. It wasn’t even a spoiler as I wasn’t flat out obvious about it, so why is what I did against the forum rules enough to warrant both a ban and the deletion of the reply?

Reply to the message and/or contact Steam support.

Debating a ban here isn’t going to accomplish anything.

Is it the “contact steam support” or the reply box below the ban announcement? I filled out both as contacting Steam support seems like the correct option to go with, but what’s the point of the reply box?

You can do one or the other or both. It’s up to you.

Look i get it you want to be super dark and make edgy jokes but you have to accept the simple fact that they won't be welcome everywhere and that they come with the risk of consequences if those in charge decide you went too far.

I repeat, the ban had nothing to do about the CHARACTER in the game despite me directly referencing them. What you’re saying is totally irrelevant because it has nothing to do with the reasoning for the ban. The ban is because the moderator had taken it out of context and somehow assumed it was meant to provoke the ACCOUNT named “Yuri”.

You can preach all you want, but we’re talking about 2 completely different things. The ban has nothing to do with “dark and edgy jokes”. :steamfacepalm:

You were already told what to do and the fist post even links you to the correct response.

Replying to the ban message notifies the moderator who issued the ban.

There is a link in the ban message to contact Steam Support. It is even underlined in the last line of the ban message.

For future reference, you can edit your post instead of deleting them. Even the OP when making a thread.
