.... four years doesn’t even seem that onerous, to me—my self-imposed Dwarf Fortress hiatus has lasted longer than that.
Apparently not.
"I like EA. Except for a little thing called reality."
Maybe I ask for too much ... I just wanted a game that I had helped support to be available in my lifetime... I know it is a lot to ask for.
Keep in mind some of the better games, have been in Development for a very long time before release like 7 Days to Die.
7 Days and RUST have also significantly changed graphics over time. Other EAG's may or may not be worth it, but if you think they won't last until release or later, just don't buy the game.
Why don't you just ignore EA & Early Access?
You can even set up ignore filter preferences for these so they just don't appear in the store for you. From your perspective they're then as good as dropped!
See? Easy. But you have to use the tools, ONE time, that Valve provided you in Steam to set this up.
You played it for more than 300 hours... including 20 hours in the last two weeks. You gave it a positive review despite saying it's been "abandoned" back in April. And continue to play it, as of yesterday. I mean, that's your prerogative of course. But... ?
I mean, put your money where your mouth is. Stop playing games that you believe aren't 'finished' in time for 'your grandkids' (are you like... 20 yet? guessing not, because time seems to flow much differently for teenagers than it does for adults...).
Or, you could wait until a game is actually PUBLISHED, to buy it. But otherwise, dude, either stop being a hypocrite or stop actually buying and using games on steam.
You are not an 'investor'.
You are a CONSUMER. Nothing more, even if you 'backed a kickstarter'. That doesn't make you a moneybags-lending investor in a product. It means you bought an unfinished game while knowing it was unfinished and being warned *constantly* that it may never be finished.
Early Access is more about the travel than about the destination.
I think this should be the slogan that appears underneath every title that is in early access.
