Steam gift card from UK
Can I buy for my friend a gift card where I live(UK) and send it to him(to USA) and would he be able to use it?
引用自 Eluin:
If you mean the Steam Digital Gift cards, yes, those work worldwide and the money will get automatically converted into the currency of the receiving users store.

Prepaid Wallet Cards you can buy in stores on the other hand do NOT work anymore.
That was changed last year, now only cards in the same currency as the account redeeming them work.

So in short:
Steam Digital Gift card = no problem
Physical Steam Wallet Prepaid card = only in the same currency

If what you say about buying cards in a real world physical store is true then that would make them regional yes ?

I ask because a certain law was introduced last year that meant any purchase can only be made after submitting your personal details. The reason for this was so taxes was paid to the right country.

So if indeed the physical gift cards are now regionally locked, it begs the question why steam still enforce the taking of such personal details knowing that the cards themselves act as irrefutable evidence as to the location of the individual account holder (same as purchasing over the counter at your local store) and thus mutes the legal requirement set out to them to take such details or prevent purchase as a result of denial.

Even more troubling if true is how no real concerted effort was made to mention this officially by steam who had no problem mentioning the legal requirement to have to take personal details prior to purchase in the first place.
It also begs the question in such an instance, is the taking of personal details unlawful when it isnt necessary for the purpose of processing under the GDPR.

Also be careful about it
It will only work with digital gift card official from Steam
If u buy digital gift card from other website that contains different currency it wont work

There are NO Digital Gift cards not from Steam.
Digital Gift Cards can only be bought directly on Steam:
https://store.steampowered.com/digitalgiftcards/

What you are talking about are stores that sell codes from physical Steam Wallet Prepaid cards online. Those are NOT Steam Digital Gift Cards.
There is no serial key involved with Digital Gift cards, you buy them on Steam and they get send to your friend.

I said it because ur information not fully clear to people who not aware of it
It can be misunderstanding if u not explain it fully

There's still a lot of 'digital gift' card from before in many 3rd party sellers
U must stated it must be official from Steam, that's my point
People who buy their gift card from 3rd party store can be mislead because they think it's still work because it's not in physical form,so further detail will help avoid it

The term 'digital gift' card not solely based on official Steam gift card from Steam
If u have been here long enough u should aware of that

I just suggested some detail to avoid trouble,no need to act aggressive

:qr:

Each Steam User Account is associated with a specific currency, which you can see in the top right corner of your Steam Client. Going forward, you may encounter an error if you try to activate a Steam Wallet Code issued in a different currency than the one of your Steam User Account.

This appears to say to me that if i buy lets say a few steam wallet codes in the USA that its not liable to work in France. This would suggest the steam wallet codes are locked to the native currency of the place of purchase.
If so then it suggests this would act as proof for the purposes of taxes if the place of purchase and account holders origin is the same, yes or no ?

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
