If it was part of the set published by Sierra, it won't.
But otherwise....
The key was usually printed/stickered on the cd sleeve
No not that one..... THAT one.
What about that package right in the back?
Outside of things like this we can't help you. As others have said, those old keys came with the game in the box or printed on the back of the manual. If you can't find it, it's toast.
And to make matters worse, ifit's an old Sierra key, that doesn't necessarily mean it works on Steam.
Normally the keys with game discs are installation keys and used to verify a legit version of a game.
Even if you had the key the game would have to be added to your steam library as a third party game and will not have achievements or steam cards activated.
The old sierra published stuff could (at least in did that a lot of years ago with the HL retail i had) added with the non steam key.
There was also a list of old games which could be activated in the steam support faq. (found in an old thread by google https://web.archive.org/web/20160505042257/https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601 )
No idea if they will still work or not.
They do not anymore, no. Valve stopped accepting Sierra keys ages ago.
