why does steam not censor the d word?

That's one of the things. It feels "wrong and weird", that instead of not using those words we instead censor them. And what would a, for example, child ask when they see something censored? I don't know, it feels like a "damned if you do damned if you don't" on that sort of thing.

I'm even going the way of; Why should we not teach children to swear? Because we don't want to? It feels like the only reason in the end of it all, maybe? :P

To be fair, up until a few years ago, you couldn't say "♥♥♥♥" on TV, but now you can on tv-14 rated shows so I think what's a bad word is shifting from curses to more directed slurs. I could understand if steam had a less restrictive filter at some point as well

dunno in germany we can say those words on TV..

hell the s word and crap have the same meaning when translated which is already a problem. I can't tell how often 1 Mod on a Game forum is on my butt because of translations and how words in english have like 100 different meaning in german for example.

For me personally its annoying.. i can see why the f word is censored but so many words are just censored for no obvious reason (in my opinion and maybe because its "ok" in germany/western europe)

like when i say that Feature XY is s then its basically just a different word for "bad", maybe just a bit rougher. in modern language...

Ya I'm not sure why it's so strange over here, but it is. I personally have no problem teaching kids, they're gonna find out anyways so do it yourself and don't make it a big deal. They're just words after all, it's how you use them that's important.

And I will die convinced that this is thanks to Jeanette Biedermann. Girl never had the TV filter while doing interviews and at somepoint they got tired of beeping her out.
