Damn...is pretty mild in 2021. I know some Americans have a problem with it, but most of the rest of the world is fine with it.

Yeah it's very tame compared to a lot of things and I tend to see it used more as just complaining about things rather than saying it directly to someone.

The censorship is like a little joke, as far as I know. It's not to be taken too serious. Or at least, it started as a small joke, and is probably not very well thought through. It's for those people that always swear, so they can see hearts when they do it, which is funny. Like, it points it out to them.

Most of the world is fine with the fecal word, too. In Britain it's even allowed on TV by now. Didn't hear it bleeped out for some time on the shows I watch at least.
In Germany "it's fine" for years even.

The biggest problem are those holier-than-you morale apostles who keep complaining about it and lead to self-censoring I don't think the general public gives a ♥♥♥♥ about it. Well, at least as long as "think about the children" isn't played out.

I lived right next to a primary school and had a playground within the block. Children used to cuss like sailors all the time. Mostly because it was cool to break the rules.

I don’t think “damn” is a bad word plus it’s not a word I come across very often on the forums anyways. So it doesn’t need to be filtered. If I wanted to add it, I could. But I don’t feel it’s necessary. Thanks for the question though.

Primary school grounds have some proper high-quality swearing.

In Ireland, colourful language is your God-given right. We sprinkle it through every conversation like salt.

I'm having trouble agreeing that swear words should be censored at all. Same with how they do in movies or TV. The more I spend time thinking about it, it just feel, weird, I can't really explain it any better. Maybe something is wrong with me? :P

I also wonder if there are any words that are just on the brink of being censored but aren't as of now, for one or more reasons?

Just remember that there is technically no minimum age to use Steam, just to create an account and that's 13. So preventing *most* swearing from reaching them is probably a good thing. Now if parents are cool with it that's another story, but by and large we don't need people throwing F-bombs every other word. That doesn't promote civil discourse.

Valve uses it too...

Q: Why do you KEEP asking my DAMN age throughout the store?

A: We're with you on this. Unfortunately, many rating agencies have rules that stipulate that we cannot save your age for longer than a single browsing session. It's frustrating, but know we're filling out those age gates too.

so why is the s word "offensive" or a "curse" word but crap isn't?

like when i say that Feature XY is s then its basically just a different word for "bad", maybe just a bit rougher. in modern language...
