I just now found out about Phoenix Point's free weekend, even though it's on my wishlist.
Shouldn't "hey, this game is having a free weekend" be the type of think you should be notified about if a game is on your wishlist?

Because you have it on your wishlist in hopes of a sale

No, I have it in my wishlist because it's a game I'm interested in. Maybe I'm just different from other people (what else is new), but I sometimes put games in my Steam wishlist as a way of reminding myself to watch other people playing the game on Youtube so I can get a feel for whether I would like the game that way. Like I said before, a wishlist is not a "notify me if this game goes on sale" list. If that were all it was, why would Steam notify me when an early access game on my wishlist goes into full release? That seems to indicate they understand people use wishlists for more than being told when it's on sale.

And that is why the wishlist is for sales - not free weekends, demos etc.

Why shouldn't it be?

This is bringing up a totally different issue with emails now. I sometimes get emails about 14 hours after the sale started but have not had any be missing.

Yeah, it does look like that's part of the issue here. Still don't understand why they wouldn't want to tell people about free weekends anyway, though.
Correction then - there's nothing wrong with using your wishlist for YOUR purposes. I just use mine as a sundry reminder list.

But the point is that IS NOT what it was intended for, or designed for .That's the key point.

The different issue they were talking about is that I didn't even get the email that said Phoenix Point was on sale (even though I added it to my wishlist months ago).

The key point for me is, why wouldn't Steam or the game's developers want the people who have the game on their wishlist to know it's having a free weekend? Isn't the whole point of a free weekend to increase exposure for the game? So, if there's already people who have this game in a list to be notified when things like sales happen to it, why would the intention or design be, "let's not bother telling those people about that"? People who have the game wishlisted seem like the exact people you would want to tell.

First thing I would say is to check your spam folder.

I've seen many occasions over the years where steam emails weirdly get sent to spam. Commonly it used to happen with Gmail accounts when starting out, but sometimes ones just appear in there out of the blue (they may have been stupidly reported as spam by other people and the provider auto-binned them).

If you still don't see anything, it might be worth poppin a message to the devs concerned as it might be affecting others.

Okay, I checked my spam folder and there's nothing from Steam in there. Do you mean sending a message to the devs of Phoenix Point, rather than someone from Steam?

Because Valve knows you are interested in PURCHASING it.

Why should it be? - When you already thought it was 100% free and numerous others who have played free weekends thought other games were free.

Because the dev, pub manages the store page and all information relating to their product not Valve.

Yup, because they are the ones that would know whether an email has been sent about their game. Then if it is a problem THEY can tell Steam.

Because there are other avenues for it. People who are interested in the game for other reasons than purchasing them usually follow the game. Any news post the game dev/publisher makes, gets then notified to the people who follow the game.

Keep in mind that in this case you're trying to use the wishlist as the follow feature. Why not use the features that are designed for them.

If games on a wishlist start giving out notifications for things that are anything other than a sale or releasing out of Early Access, I certainly want a toggle to turn them off. I use the wishlist so I don't get all kinds of info I'm not interested in.

Crunchy, those wishlist sale emails are done automatically by Steam. The devs of a game aren't the ones sending those emails out.

Right, and the purpose of a free weekend is to play it for a few days to help you decide if it's worth PURCHASING.

No I didn't, you just misunderstood the point I was making.

Yup, and the store is used for that same purpose, but the store pages aren't on the wishlist, Weird no? It's almost like it's designed for the purpose we said.
Aachen 2021 年 10 月 10 日 上午 10:21
Yeah, no real interest in free weekends—they’re essentially, as I view, time-limited demos.

Wishlist isn't one of them.

Well, it should be. This seems like such an obvious thing to me. A wishlist is literally a list of games you wish to play, so why wouldn't you want to know when you had a chance to play the game free for a few days? It's not a "notify me if and only if this game has a discounted price to permanently buy" list. Why are people getting all purist about this? I don't understand this reaction at all.
If the wishlist included games that were on timed free periods then there would be a load of whining users moaning that their free game was taken away and then missing the discount in that time. Wishlist is for paid games only and you should've received an email that the game was at least discounted rather than being made available for free. In doing so, you'd also see by visiting the store page that the game had a timed trial period so you could still try the game first.

If you didn't get the email regardless then that's an issue down to the email system.
