Steam game avatars

Hello

Just a short question about game avatars. Usually we only get game avatars from games which we have bought. A friend of mine says he only bought Garry's Mod, but he also have a lot of game avatars from games which he didn't bought.

How is that possible?

The games are; 365 Days, Aquila Bird Flight Simulator, Adventure Boy Cheapskate DX and Adult Toy Store.

You know you can upload your own images as avatars, from screenshots, images found on the web, your own photos, artwork, etc., right? And there are a ton of images to be found on the Web, including stock avatars from games.

If the friend only bought Garry's Mod, they did not get enough Steam points from that purchase to buy a bunch of game avatars in the Points Shop @ 3000 points each.
I mean, it's possible that they are farming points with meme posts and such, but man... that's a ton of farming to be able to buy avatars.

At the link they gave.
But only if the game devs/publisher added an avatar to the Points Shop for their game.
Not all games have items in the Points Shop. They don't have to, it's optional for them to put items there, not mandatory.
Use the "filter by game" link at the top leftish to see if the games you mentioned even have avatars for sale there. And IIRC, you have to own the game to buy items from it in the Points Shop.

Again, the imgur you linked to is exactly where people can clip an image from to upload from their own machine to create an avatar, similar to my custom avatar, created from clipping a screenshot I took in The Long Dark.

Definitely the point shop I think... you can buy yourself a lot of cosmetic goodies there even if you don't necessarily own some games (so I think!).

Check it out, you earn Steam points with every purchase as well as when getting awarded by other players. Then you can use those points in the point shop...

well.. i have many avatars from games i don't have on steam: https://steamcommunity.com/my/edit/avatar idk why.. maybe the game was free on free weekend and your friend played that game, maybe he refunded that game, i have no idea

It's a mystery to me as well.
